I use this with my son and it is not fruity.  You have to put money down first. the regular companies will not take any block off, you will have to go through that person you talked to orrignially. the calls can be done in spanish or english that is why a spanish ad.

No this is an honest company trying to help an inmate contact you. If the inmate is important to you then set up a prepay account like I did. I only put so much a month on and thats it. I and my son talk twice a week .He knows that if he goes over the amount then thats it for the month and it will be letters only. You also can check the price of the call the first time he calls you too so you have an idea of how often you can afford to talk.

You either have a number that used to belong to someone who has a friend there or someone gave an inmate a deliberate wrong number on purpose. find out who has the number and who gave it to  him. It may not be his fault.

Its unusual that they did not announce his name at the begining of the call.My son always is asked his name when he uses them to call me.I would call them and talk to a supervisor of the phone company and let them know they may have disconnected a client.

Some states allow you to be billed monthly or do a prepay account- your choice like my state does. We do a prepay. In our state AT&T bills us if we do a monthly billing.

when they call you you dont give up any card info. the only time you do is when you set up a prepay account with someone you know.

call the company and see if there is still enough money on the account if its a prepay account. if its billed to you then write him and find out what happened. He may have lost phone privilages or he may have been moved to another jail. Call the jail and see if he is still there and get his inmate number and write him.

Received a call from this number, also.  Actually twice, within a few minutes of each other.  I wasn't here so my voice mail picked it up.  The recording said that it was from an inmate at "Eastern Correctional Institution."  Then it got to the point where it said that the call was from "Brian" (recorded name).  Not knowing anyone in jail (that I'm aware of, anyway) I figured it was a scam.  To make sure I searched the number given and got to this site.  A crook is always a crook.

By the way, the number he called is a federal government office number.  What brass!

    a person with a phone
I called and was on hold for 20 minutes and then a lady got on the line and asked me what phone number I was calling from.  I told her 866-230-7761  I asked what this was about and she said someone was in jail.  I asked her where, she shuffled some papers around and said "somewhere in Texas, what's your name?"  I told her she didn't need to know my name because I called them and she should be able to see my number and cross-reference in whatever call tracking system they're using.  She asked me for my name, I told her she didn't need to know my name, she told me to have a nice day and thanks for calling Global Tel Link and then she hung up on me.

    GENERAL CONSUMER PROTECTION INFORMATION
Be wary of inmate calls that request you to dial *72 followed by a new ten-digit number. Completing this request will result in the forwarding of your telephone number to a number of the inmate´s choosing, and all calls to your true telephone number will be automatically forwarded to the new number without your knowledge. The only way to reverse the forwarding of calls to a new number is to dial *73.
    NOTICE:
Global Tel*Link has a policy of recording incoming customer calls to its Customer Service Call Center for training and quality of service purposes. Customers will hear a recording at the beginning of all calls into the Customer Service Call Center informing them that the call may be recorded.

INMATE PREPAY OPTIONS - GTL offers inmates the ability to purchase prepaid calling vouchers from the facility or commissary. This option permits direct dialing, complete call control and always increases revenue for the facility.  VOUCHER BENEFITS

TOTAL PREPAID CALL CONTROL - Competitors´ prepaid options often dial out to a platform that results in lost control of the calls. GTL´s exclusive prepaid platform maintains all of LazerPhone®´s hallmark administrative, investigative and security features. Our customers do not have to sacrifice call control for increased call completion.

    LAZERPHONE® PREPAY DEBIT ACCOUNTS
LazerPhone® offers two prepay options through its integrated Debit Account system: direct deposit, which is managed through the LazerPhone® workstation, and prepaid KEEP IN TOUCH Vouchers that inmates may purchase from the facility, or the facility´s commissary, and "cash" at inmate telephones. To use either prepay option, an inmate must have a LazerPhone® PIN account. (Note: A facility may choose to assign PINs to all inmates for better control of phone usage,or may assign PINs only to inmates wishing to make prepaid calls.)

When LazerPhone®´s Debit system is active, at the beginning of each call attempt, if the inmate chooses the prepaid call type, the system´s automated operator reports the current balance in the inmate´s prepaid account. If the balance is sufficient, the cost of the current call can be automatically deducted from the account. Inmate debit accounts can be added, updated, deleted, or closed at the LazerPhone® workstation.

HOW "KEEP IN TOUCH" PREPAID VOUCHERS WORK
The facility or the facility´s commissary orders KEEP IN TOUCH Vouchers from Global Tel*Link and sells them to inmates wishing to make prepaid calls. Once in the inmate´s possession, the voucher is taken to any inmate phone. After choosing a language and entering a destination number, the inmate selects menu option 5 to begin the "cashing" process. Following automated prompts, the inmate enters his PIN, the voucher number, and the voucher value. If the PIN is valid and the voucher has not been previously used, the value of the voucher is transferred to the PIN account. The inmate may now place prepaid calls by simply choosing the prepaid call type and entering his/her PIN during call setup, the voucher number is no longer needed. Unlike prepaid calling cards that retain value and are subject to theft, once "cashed" (meaning the voucher number has been recorded by LazerPhone®) the voucher is useless and can be discarded. If inmate friends and family members wish to purchase prepaid vouchers for an inmate, they can do so by depositing money into the inmate´s commissary account. The inmate can then purchase a voucher using the money deposited in his commissary account. When an inmate leaves the facility with funds still in a debit account, the facility or commissary may request a refund, or the inmate´s LazerPhone® PIN, with its associated Debit Account, may simply be deactivated. If the inmate is re-incarcerated in the future, he or she can use the same PIN for making prepaid calls.

    CALL CONTROL
Because this prepaid option operates on Global Tel*Link´s platform, prepaid calls are subject to the same call controls as collect calls. Prepaid calls must be validated before the system will connect the call. Once connected, the call is subject to the facility’s call-duration restrictions, time-of-day restrictions, blocked-number restrictions, and all other call-restrictions.

    REFUNDS
Refunds will only be made upon written request following an inmate’s release from jail. To obtain a refund, the facility and/or the commissary company must make a written refund request on the inmate´s behalf. The request must include the PIN, the inmate’s name, the mailing address, and the facility name. A refund will only be made if requested by the facility and/or the commissary company.

This company is scamming people in need, I accepted the charges and good thing I did, was a family member being in detention en El Paso Texas jail, I felt bad, so I open a collect calls for $25.00 and I Spock to this family member in need for about 3 1/2 minutes, so she can use some other times, She hasn't allow  to talk to my phone again. I called 866-230-7761 to find out why and they told me that I needed to put more money to talk to her.  It would be nice if they investigate this company.

    taking action on this
    I
am not a customer with Global tel Link and no one is authorized to use
my home phone number for collect calls, but I get lots of calls (collect
and recording from GTL Inmate from people I don't know.) Must be GTL's
sales and marketing department's way of by passing the no call list, that
my phone has been listed three times. The recordings are no conversation
calls and are disconnected  after GTL ends the message. Wonder who is
paying for these no conversation calls made to non-customers from so
called inmates? What's the fine for violations of the no call list?
