- loreal replies to kelli have had some what the same problem my phone some how just got block I hav e being calling GTL since April 27 and all that they tell me is that he has not tried to call. We have talked almost everyday since Jan.and now all I get is he forgot your #. Have you found out what is wrong with yours. I have asked for a refund and was told to wait to see if he will call which I know he won't because my phone is blocked.
- ReneeI set up an account in July 08 (on my cell phone) in Nov 08 they (Global) told me that they don't allow cell phones and tried to blame it on the correctional when I phoned the correctional site and asked them. Now almost 99.9% of us have cell phnoes as main phones, they should setup accounts w/cell phones. and paying through western union is a joke because it doesn't post when they say and it takes in fact 2 days. what type of stuff is that? in all and all Global Tel Link is Global Tel [***].
- FYI Information about GTLI have used Global Tel Link in the past for phone calls with a relative in a county jail. The county jail which is in CA has a contract with Global Tel Link so instead of collect calls, the calls have to be prepaid. I have used the website and the call center which I believe is in Ga and set up an account, and to put additional money on the account. Each phone call is charged a connection fee and then a set per minute rate (it varies depending on the distance of the calls). I have never gotten a bill in the mail from them. I have always prepaid a set amount either $25 or $50 and then used the minutes to talk with my relative. They calls are very expensive so the prepaid money does not last long. ***** Judging by all of the comments I do believe that a few of the people may have had loved ones in jail and not been aware of it. (There is no free call, if it is a legitimate call from them your loved one will say their name in the call obviously you should recognize the voice to confirm.

- FYI Additional InformationIf you keep getting calls from Global Tel Link and the name is for someone that you know (loved one, friend, etc) there is a free way to confirm if they are truely incarcerated in the jail that GTL claims the call is coming from. VINE Link is free it stands for (Victim Information and Notification Everyday). This is to find out the status of incarcerated people so that victims of crimes will have a heads up if the person is being released from custody or transfered to another facility. Their website is www.vinelink.com (AGAIN THIS IS FREE NATIONWIDE) there is a map and you select the state and then the county that you want to search and you just enter the first and last name and it will confirm if they are incarcerated or not. Hope this helps.

- AlexaI got a bill from this number (866) 230-7761 and it was from an inmate at the jail. They take your information and then you can speak to them after they take ur card number exp and security code, but it was not a scam, my boyfriend got put in jail after arguing with a cop and that is where the bill came from.

- Kristen| 1 replyI received a call to my cell phone from a family member in jail and since it came to my cell phone number and it doesn't accept collect calls Global Tel Inc was the one to contact me. It said I had a call from an inmate calling and his name and then I had to put a credit card number and all of that informationand it asked me if I wanted a pre paid $25 or $50 and it charged my account for $25 which is what I chose and then I was connected to my family member. The rest of the money that you don't use gose back to your account in 30 days. They were allowed to use the phone at their leisure at the detention center so if you get a call it's probably because they just got arrested.

- BillI just got a message from this number. It said something about someone from prison trying to get in touch with me and I need to call this number back and some other BS. At first it worried me because I have a younger brother who drinks and parties a lot; so I figured he got in trouble. Well I called his cell and he was at work. I got a little suspecious and googled the number to find this page. Glad I found it, I hate those stupid scam people, I would like to kick them in the family jewels.

- DEETGlobal Tel Inc. For county jails. UNDERSTAND the first time you enter your cc info more than likely the person calling will not be on the other line. REASON IS, it takes about 4 minutes to go through the prompts and the inmate doesn't know what is going on. They will probably hang up before your done. Just try and catch the phone next time it rings. From the time you hang up until the call is ended you have right at 15min and 37sec. USE IT WISELY.

- Meme replies to SharonEach prisoner and the person he is calling sets up a call and depending on which state you live in;you either can agree to be billed monthly up to the amount of $100 per month. In some states you call them and they give you a fax number after you ok to recieve the calls and proove you are the real owner of the phone then a week later they can call you back .Or in some states like mine I can set up a prepaid account using my credit card or debit card. I chose the latter so he knows he only has so much each month to call with. You might also ask if they can set up the phone calls through jpay. some places allow that too. Make sure you let the inmate know you have set up the phones or that you are using jpay. In any case remember all of this is for profit. It goes to help run the place so they don;t have to pay a monthly fee to be put there like county jails do.
- Meme replies to BelindaIt means you have a friend incarserated there and he wants to talk to you. If you want when he calls back answer the phone and they will ask you if you want to talk to him and who he is; if not they will tell you to press a # on the phone to block all the future calls.dont do anything just hang up once you hear who it is if you want to talk to him a bunch and call the 866 number back and set up an account with him. Or call the jail he is at and get the mailing address and his inmate number and write instead. the jail has to give you the inmate number for the mail. You must put your return address on the envelope too. In a letter you can discuss any future calls if you prefer first with the person. they wont do call calls though.
- Meme replies to miss tNo it was probably your stalker and it should be reported and you should probably file more charges on him. there usually isnt any prison scams going with this type of a set up. he may have a phone card so do not even latch on to the call to block it. If you have caller ID then do not erase any of the attempts so you can prove it in court. You might ask the cops to ask the phone company to keep track of how many times that number calls you for court purposes. this person would more than likely loose his phone privilages too.
- Meme replies to solar51| 1 replythey are just a company that runs the phones because there are such a large volume of calls out and ingoing that they can not handle the load themselves. Attorneys do not care if the prisoner gets calls. they are like Verison or MCI or at&t.You can call the prison and get your friend's mailing address and his inmate number and write him instead but you have to seek out the information they do not go to you. they are a for profit company just like any other business.
- Meme replies to Mike HuntYou have to set an account with them and the prisoner. all calls from prisons are collect up set up specially to your number with your ok on it.they have such volume they have to go the collect rout and have it handled by an outside company.
