how come capitol one uses phone numbers that say unknown caller? that is illegal

I get calls every 20 minutes from this number or many others that say "Capital One" with different area codes.  Seriously...EVERY 20 minutes and I paid my bill online last night.

It's not really Capital One. It's a phishing scam. The recording tells you to say or enter your 16 digit Capital One credit card number. I gave it a bogus number, then it prompted me to enter my 9 digit social security number. Again, I used a bogus number. I was then switched to a call center in India, where the gentleman who answered claimed to have worked for Capital One for nearly two years, but couldn't answer very simple questions about Capital One (Who is the CEO of the company, what city is the corporate headquarters located, etc).

When I told him I thought this was a scam, he told me to have a nice day and hung up on me. The whole time we were speaking, I could hear A LOT of other people talking in the background, and cell phones ringing nearly non-stop.

DO NOT GIVE THESE PEOPLE ANY INFORMATION.

I got a call and a "blank" voice mail message . . . guess my intro was too long for their computer to click on.

I received 2 calls on my cell phone.  It's bad enough to get them on your home phone, but my cell phone # should be more private.  I missed the first call early this morning as I was driving.  I received the second call as I was walking to my office.  A recorded voice (with no accent) came on and told me to hold for an important call.  Then finally, a live voice (with an accent) came on and said, "Hello, is this Manuel?"  I said, "No--no one here by that name."  He then said my phone # and when I told him he had the wrong #, he repeated it.  I again said, "You have the wrong #."  Then he hung up.  I just called the number and a recording comes on saying Capital One.  Please enter your 16-digit account #. I sent Capital One an e-mail to find out what's going on.

I got mad. I tried to figure out how they got my cell nbr? I never give out my nbrs to anyone.

I refuse to answer those toll-free nbrs. Duh them! They also use the 1-866-929-5307.  I refused to answer that one. No thanks.

Calls several times a day. Recorded message says it is in reference to an extended car warranty offer. I called back and the lady said it was Capital One in reference to an overdue card. I Do not have a Capital 1 card.

This is a scam!!! Always asks for SS# and address. DO NOT give out your information. Claims to work for Capital One, when I started asking questions regarding Capital One, the lady put me on hold and then transferred me to a man with a very thick hindu accent, when I told them that it was a scam and that they were harrasing me, they stopped calling for a week, but then called under a different number.

i just got a call from this number on my cell phone and i have no idea how they got the number as its unlisted and they have no reason to call me on my cell

Can I ask why this stupid company insists on calling on Memorial Day or on Sunday?  It's always after 3:00 p.m.  It's like they leave you alone almost the whole weekend and then start in on you near the end of the weekend.

Not sure if it's Capital on, I'm in the process of filing for Bankruptcy and have already told them, but the good Folks in India must have wrote the computer notes in HINDU. They call me Sunday at 9 am, with a different caller ID.

This is a spoofed Caller ID, it is not Capital One.  Its some mysterious group trying to disguise themselves as Capital One

calls daily and never leaves a message.  I do not answer unknown calls as I am on the do not call list and have been for years.  I dont have a capital one card and dont have any past due accounts SO I dunno why they call me daily,  sometimes twice!!

I recently got a call from this number (1-866-381-0453).  When I call back they claim to be Capital One, However, I don't even own a capital one credit card.  Please be aware that this is truly a scam. don't give out any personal information such as SS# or address.....

i received a phone call from 866-381-0453 it showed up as "800 Service" and the person with an accent asked for me by name telling me that i am overdue in a payment and that i can make a payment over the phone.  Well, i do have an account with them but i don't have a balance.  I asked for them just to send me the bill and to close the account and he hung up on me. DO NOT GIVE YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION TO THESE SCAMMERS!!!

Continually get calls from this number - several a day!  My soliciter screen recording is so long there is no voice mail left.. it just rings through and then there is silence.

get 2 calls from them, and even called my wife's number.
Don't know how they got our number. Is there anyway to report those scam people

they call me everyday i never answer....they call back twice.....
