That isn't the proper way to handle a DC, you would be giving up your rights, and especially if they are trying to collect on a student loan.

You need to send them a certified, return receipt debt validation, cease and desist calling, or "not me" letter.  You also need to report them to the proper agencies to which I have provided links to.  Then you need to go out and get a consumer lawyer to sue them on a contingency basis (no money out of your pocket) and let them pay you for the harassment.  If everyone did these three things, these crooks would be bankrupt and we would all be the richer for it.

Please note:  Regarding the collection of student loans, the collection agency wants to convince you that you need to pay $200 or more per month.  The reason is simple-they make a ton more money that way.  If they get you to pay that they make 16% of the TOTAL loan amount.  If you pay less they only get 16% of what you pay every month.

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt.  It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.

Yes this is a scam they tried to say I owed 1500 for a bank loan...I have never had a bank loan and I told them that then I asked what bank they said city bank of new york...never lived in new York so I contacted my attorney and he done some research and he called back the number and told them he was my husband then after he got info from the person he said he was my attorney and they hung up

Do not call them back the irs. Never calls you and they will tell you that themselves    the irs. Sends out letters they do not call you...

Irs dont call anyone. They send letter

GC Services.  They are a debt collector.  Some states now use debt collectors for past due taxes.  Unfortunately, the federal government is going to begin using debt collectors to collect past due taxes as well.  Just be careful.

I had the same exact situation reported by Cecilia.  Shamari Sanders called me from one number but requested I call back to another number and extension.  This is a SCAM.

My parents received a voice mail message to call 866-749-7279 x6008, Amber Hanson? They asked for my sister. She fails to pay bills and has been hounded by Collection Agencies in the past. So I have not called as I am not her but is this a Collection Agency? I told my parents not to return call as she does not live with them and they are not responsible for her debt.

This is a scam! At this time of year people will be getting scam phone calls from IRS, debt collections, etc. and will also threatened to have a Marshall come to your home and arrest you.  They will do and say anything they can to scare you enough to make you pay for whatever it is they claim you allegedly oh. This happened to me two years ago and my daughter and I had to go to the police station to file a complaint. It is happening again this year already to both my husband and myself. Block the number

These people call me daily looking for some guy. I called back and asked why she leaves a message for a dude when my voice mail says my name- not the name they're looking for. She wouldn't even stop and listen. SO ANNOYING

If they call I don't answer. They can leave a message. If they don't I will usually block the number. Too many scams today and I don't play their game.
