- anonymous replies to Big BossWell, if the real WF had *told* you there was an attempted use of your card (instead of WF *asking* you whether the transaction was legit), then WF would have auto-cancelled your card and auto-issued you a new one, no need for *YOU* to tell WF to cancel your card and to send you a new one. You need to do better to get victims to believe your fake stories.
800-704-0855 is NOT LISTED on WF's website as a legit WF number.
1. If 800-704-0855 calls you, DON'T give away any info.
2. NEVER call 800-704-0855 back.
3. If you need to call WF, use the number on the back of your card or the numbers on WF's website https://www.wellsfargo.com/help/phone_dir
Who wants the whole world to believe that 800-704-0855 is a legit WF number? Why, SCAMMERS of course, SCAMMERS who want you to call and give away your account info. - Cathy| 1 replyIt is Wells Fargo Fraud Department. My husband works for them. It is a trusted number. If you don't believe me, call Wells Fargo customer service and have them check the number. I do agree that it should read Wells Fargo on the caller ID and doesn't. When I called the toll free number on my online account they did directly transfer me to this number. They are just making sure that recent activity on your account isn't fraudulent. If you do not respond to the calls they will freeze your account where you can't use your money until you respond.
- Caller: Toll Free Calle...
- anonymous replies to CathyRe. "It is a trusted number. If you don't believe me, call Wells Fargo customer service and have them check the number", poster "Not Wells Fargo" did exactly that and posted the following rebuttal on 20 Jan 2012:
"Called from this number. Hung up as soon as I realized it was fake. (I did not give out any info.) Called Wells Fargo (the toll free number on my statement) and it was verified that this number is bogus. The robocall, the music and the fact that they're asking for information that they should already have is a strong indicator of fraud."
Furthermore, 800-704-0855 is NOT LISTED as a legit WF number on WF's website https://www.wellsfargo.com/help/phone_dir Like all banks, WF tells its customers to call legit WF numbers from TRUSTED SOURCES (back of card, WF statement, website, phone book) and NEVER FROM UNTRUSTED SOURCES like 800notes. There is NO PROOF that 800-704-0855 is a legit WF number except for allegations from anonymous postings on an anonymous forum like 800notes. Allegations are not proof. Only SCAMMERS want you to call FAKE-WF numbers and give away your personal and account info.
1. If 800-704-0855 calls you, DON'T give away any info.
2. NEVER call 800-704-0855 back.
3. If you need to call WF, use a number from a TRUSTED SOURCE (back of card, WF statement, website, phone book) - kathy replies to NobodyGot a land line phone message from this number that daughter's card may have some fraudulent activity, She called from cell phone and the msg said to enter the phone number associated with account. didn't work. was asked for her card number so she thought it was suspicious. I searched the number and came up with this post. she had checked her account online...there was no activity on it since she had last used it almost a month ago. Furthermore...she has only a few dollars in the account. I Told her to call the number on the back of her card and ask for fraud dept. as suggested here. She was told that she did the right thing...there was no fraudulent activity as she expected and that this was not a Wells Fargo number that called. safe to assume that those who think that it was valid got scammed...gave your account number,,,and access to your account.
- Kathy replies to BobbyNumber did not show up on the caller ID and unfortunately Comcast phone doesn't tell you when the call came in ( listening to msgs). I assume it was fairly recent. Actually had reason to suspect that it could be legitimate but that is another story, take the advice of the person who said to verify such calls by calling the number on the back of your card.
- Desert Cat| 1 replyThis IS Wells Fargo. An attempted purchase for over $400 was made at a Rite-Aid in North Carolina even though I live in California. Another charge was made on-line for app. $20 which DID go through. The larger declined purchase did not show up on my on-line activity so I didn't know there was a problem.
First they called the landline, let it ring 3 times and hung up. Then they called my cell let it ring 3 times and hung up. I called Wells Fargo at the number on my card and they confirmed this is their fraud division. They also said this kind of activity is at an "all time high."
I hope this helps but with all the craziness going on, I would NEVER give info to a strange number. Use the number you know is real.- Caller: Wells Fargo
- Desert CatAs an addendum to my previous post, the $20 charge that DID go through was to the credit rating agency, Experian. So the thieves did their homework before they attempted to make a fraudulent purchase. That is the same reason the thieves will attempt several small charges before going for the gold.
Never, ever give any info to someone who calls you, not even your favorite color. There is no bottom to the depth these people will sink to.
[***].- Caller: Wells Fargo
- NO One replies to NobodyWell it is still going on, got two calls today and they have my name so I guess I have to cancel that card. I called Wells Fargo and it is NOT their number.
- CustomerHello,
I called Wells Fargo and asked to speak to the Fraud department. Wells Fargo does not care if you get scammed and if you do call the number in the message it is your own fault. This is NOT a Wells Fargo number.
Report all calls from 1800-704-0855 to ftc.gov/complaint, lets keep them from ripping off others.
Signed,
Not an idiot- Caller: Wells Fargo
- anonymous replies to Desert CatReally? Then why did poster "Customer" below state on Oct 22 2012 "I called Wells Fargo and asked to speak to the Fraud department. ... This is NOT a Wells Fargo number."???
This number is not listed on WF's website https://www.wellsfargo.com/help/phone_dir
Only SCAMMMERS want you to believe this is a legit WF number so they can steal your money and ID. - Marilyn| 2 repliesI received a missed phone call from 1-800-704-0855 - the message was cut off but the automated voice noted that it was from Wells Fargo. I looked at my own bank account and all of the purchases made were my own - no activity I didn't recognize. I had made several on-line purchases the night before from 3 different websites, so I thought that may have something to do with it, but to be safe I looked up the number on this and other 800 number websites right away. I thought it was weird how many conflicting reports over whether or not this was a scam there were. Instead of calling this number back, I called the number listed on Wells Fargo's website for fraudulent activity 1-800-869-3557. I spoke to a representative and told him that the number 1-800-704-0855 called claiming to be Wells Fargo and asked him if he could verify whether it was from WF or not. He put me on hold and when he came back he said that it was indeed the number of one of their automated systems and the call was to verify that the purchases made were mine since the activity was unusually high. I don't doubt however that there may be scammers out there abusing this number / claiming to be from Wells Fargo and recommend calling your branch or Wells Fargo's fraudulent activity number to be safe.

- anonymous replies to MarilynRe. "it was weird how many conflicting reports over whether or not this was a scam there were", no it isn't weird at all. 800notes is an anonymous forum so posts CANNOT be trusted to be truthful. You could be Condy Rice pretending to be "Marilyn." I could be Santa Claus pretending to be "anonymous." No one should trust your word that the real WF told you 800-704-0855 is a legit WF number but everyone should trust my word that ALL BANKS TELL CUSTOMERS TO *NEVER* CALL NUMBERS FROM UNTRUSTED SOURCES.
This-is-scam posts are posted by careful people who know better than to trust a number that's NOT from a TRUSTED SOURCE (back of card, WF statement, website, phone book). This-is-not-scam posts like yours are by the SCAMMERS themselves who are desperate to trick potential victims into believing that 800-704-0855 is a valid WF number (and it is NOT) and SCAM them. Think about who can possibly PROFIT from all this? This-is-scam posters do not profit in any way but this-is-not-scam posters profit by SCAMMING victims who are tricked into believing this is a valid WF number (and it is NOT) -- this is why the SCAMMERS are busily posting on 800notes. There are MANY LEGIT NUMBERS on WF's website https://www.wellsfargo.com/help/phone_dir for people to call so why should anyone risk calling a scammer on 800-704-0855? Stupid, isn't it?
There is NO PROOF that 800-446-0664 is a legit WF number except for allegations from anonymous postings on an anonymous forum like 800notes. Allegations are not proof. Only SCAMMERS want you to call FAKE-WF numbers and give away your personal and account info.

Will it give me /? - anonymous replies to MarilynRe. "I called the number listed on Wells Fargo's website for fraudulent activity 1-800-869-3557", that's the WRONG number.
The correct number for WF Report Online Fraud is 866-867-5568 as shown on https://www.wellsfargo.com/help/phone_dir
It's just amazing how many lies are spun by scammers who DON'T want victims to reach the REAL WF fraud department. - anonymous replies to Steve F"Debit and ACH transactions are extensively tracked and they are guaranteed by the FDIC or the NCUSIF" contains two LIES.
1. The FDIC does NOT track debit and ACH transactions. The FDIC only steps in when banks fail and does NOT dabble in the operation of non-failing banks.
2. The FDIC insures accounts against bank failure, NOT theft. Ditto the NCUA for credit unions. - kaybriI called the customer service line for WF and this is a fraudulent number. My account was fine and it seemed that the number wanted to get private banking info. Don't answer it!
