- elke replies to DianeYour India remark was not necessary. However your information was sound advice, thank you.
- Thom| 1 replyIts not fraud. They called to tell me about changes being made to my credit card due to the new rules set by the Obama administration. There is an option the have on the account that will allow you to go over the limit in an emergency, and pay a $29 fee. You have to agree to keep it on your individual account, or Obama's rules say it must be taken away by February 22nd, 2010.
- caroline whiteI receive numerous calls a day from 1-800-955-7070. I am on the Do Not Call and/or Solicitation list and would like these calls to stop immediately.
- Caller: CAPITAL ONE
- TamiI have two accounts in good standing and have been telling these idiots I do not want to opt in since last fall. In the last two weeks, I'm averaging 4-5 calls per day and even tried to change my phone # online (but of course, it couldn't find that link). Right now, I pick up and hang up without saying a word. Time for the air horn. I know they are worried about their revenues, but this is ridiculous. I will be monitoring these accounts for inactivity fees and closing them ASAP!! No more business with Capital One!!

- Big K replies to Brenda| 1 replyMy wife has received calls from this number several times but did not answer (if you call and cannot leave message - its not important). I "googled" this number and reading some of these comments, I too am concerned of this SCAM. What do we do?
- beschootDon't give anyone your credit card number who calls you. If it was really Cap 1 they would already have it. So why?
- rick replies to Christina| 1 replyjsut becarefull with Cap One<while every other bank is almost filing for Bankruptsy these f...ers opened agencies at least 2 in each town
- Rick 2010Just becarefull with Cap One, while everybody else or almost every other bank is filing for Bankruptsy "these f...ers" opened agencies at least 2 in each town all over America , you know what this means , they are stealing sistematicaly , and little by little from each one of us . It is a very delicate situation , 1 the goberment never do anything for us or they are to bussy or just don't care besides we are just number and if our friends or people we know die more keep comming and they keep stealing
I would subjest when you pay your credit cards or do any transactions with anybody just plain and simple , do cash and do not give them more info that what you have to and allways just use a home phole line , if you use your cell phone then you screw
Lets try to avoid credit cards lets do old fashion way "cold hard cash"
Credit Cards want you to be on debt they don't want you to pay them off
Think about it ,
You own them $500 right? then you get a hold of $300 you are a good payer give them $200 and then you keep using their credit cards when you less expect it you are $3000 in debt and you just dig out your own hole1- Caller: cap one

- DJ Dave replies to RICK 2010Hey Guys,
As much as I hate to say it, 800-955-7070 is a legit Capitol One number. Check out this link. http://www.capitalone.com/contactus/personal_ ... U1_C1_01_T_CUPC
I've never had the unfortunate luck to get involved with Capitol One, but my wife has one of their cards. After reading all of the post about these low down dirty thieving crooks I will be talking to her about canceling her account with these jerks.
Thanx For The Education - stephcaller keeps calling me several times a day, but there is no answer.

- thomm replies to ThomOh heah?
They call you , they know your name but they want to know
- where do you live or what is your credit card account number and so on!
You be sure you didn't give personal information about yourself to the wrong persons , good luck!! - Richard replies to NA| 1 replyBen, you're an idiot. You must work for Bank of America because they do this all the time.... at least five times to me during the past two years.
- jocko replies to RichardI would not give any information about your account. The banks calling have all the information on their screens and if they don't then they are not the bank. There are a number of vrified fraud cases of people getting calls or text messages from what is to be their bank and it is not. Once they have your information they can get your money. Some will even say it is about your account when you do not have an account with the supposed bank that is calling. They want you to give up information they do not have. Especially beware if they do not leave at least a short message on your answering machine.

- Robert| 1 replyThis number called me this morning and luckily I didn't get to my phone on time. I searched the number online and ran into this thread. 6 hours later my phone rings again some nice sounding lady gives me this story
I am calling to discuss changes on your credit card due to new legislation can you please verify your zip code?
I responded that I'd rather not give any information information
She said that she already had it just needed me to verify.
So I responded ok if you already have it then give me 2 choices and I will tell you which one is it
She said she could not do that
So I said I couldn't either and hung up
My guess is that certain transactions like at the gas pump ask you for your zip code after sliding your credit card and they use that to verify that its you. They might be able to do the same on bigger purchases,
Thanks to everyone for posting I would of never known to be cautious after all your zip code sounds pretty safe to give out over the phone and I probably would have done so without thinking twice
Cool Idea maybe someone can give the wrong zip code and see if they take it. If they do then obviously they never had that information in front of them to begin with and its a SCAM for sure.- Caller: Cap One
- Capone agentYou guys, I am an employee of Cap One. I do outbound phone calls. I call customers to let them know about issues with the card, or more recently about the credit card act. My job was to let customers know that their accounts were changing, and that we couldn't stop the changes without their permission. The 955-7070 number is a legitimate # that we call from. When WE call we ask for your zip code, as its public info, and you don't own it. Therefore non-intrusive.
When YOU call US the machine asks you to input your account number for a reason, its so that the computer can pull up your account on our screen, so that we don't have to bug you for the account numbers. If it didn't do this, we wouldn't know who the heck you are. How am I going to help you without seeing your account?
Please don't listen to these people, sorry to be blunt. But do your homework, and ask us if you have Q's.- Caller: N/A
