- Capone agent replies to RobertSir, I work for capitol one. We ask for your zip code to simply make sure that you are actually you. If you don't know the public information found in the phone book, then we wont talk about the account with you. Sir its simply a security measure, to make sure your actually the primary. Please my friend were not thieves. Its a legitimate way of verification, we can also have you verify the phone number wee called you on. If you tell the next agent to do so, then they will verify you that way. I do apologize for the inconvenience we were just trying to let you know that your account was changing, we thought you'd want to know what was occurring. Thank you for choosing capital one, have a great weekend.
- M replies to jNext time they call you go ahead and give them all the info they ask for and let us all know how long it takes these scammers to jack your identity! Seriously people use your brains!
- RedDiamond replies to NA| 1 replyI had a house payment deducted from checking account for somone with a similar name once. It took 2 weeks to get it all straightened out with me doing most of the legwork. The bank kept telling me that wasn't possible for it to happen, and yet it did!!!
I also had my paycheck direct-deposited to someone else's account in error. It had been going into my same bank/acccount for over 5 years and one day it went into the wrong account. That's not supposed to be possible either, and yet it did!!! - shivesQuick and easy -- legistlation passed a law in Feb. 2010 that credit card companies can no longer allow transactions to post when the consumer does not have the credit limit to pay for the purchase they are trying to make. The reason that Capital One is calling is to see if you will allow them to give you access to money that you DON'T have availabe and they will charge you a fee of a minimum of $30 per transaction. DO NOT AGREE TO THIS!! Congress passed this law so credit cards don't take advantage of "good creditors" credit. If you don't care about your credit then agree to it.
Secondly, why are we hiring people in the Phillipines and India to handle AMERICANS credit card accounts when we have US citizens starving and begging for a job????!!!!!!- Caller: Out Of Area

- acjjIt is capital one. they just want to verify some changes on the account.
- Caller: capital one.
- Eggroll5215This # calls my cell phone, two to three times a day, but they NEVER leave a message so as far as I'm concerned it's not all that important that they speak to me, but I am going online after reading this blog to check my Capital One statement and my son's to see if there have been any changes since I last looked. Neither on of our accounts are past due or over the limit so I don't know why they continue to harass me every day of the week both night and day, it's getting to the point that I will close my account should they continue to call and leave no message.

- DDI called the number back and it is the line for Capital One Customer Service. The CSR indicated the reason why I was receiving calls was because they are calling to inform people of changes made to the over the limit policy. She said they are calling to see if I wanted the ability to spend over my limit for a fee. You have to opt into this, rather than opt out, so if you do nothing, you're fine.
I said no I did not want to be allowed to go over my limit for a fee. She did not ask for any personal information because I had already entered in my card number before being directed to an CSR.
The number is legitimate but I would suggest calling the number back rather than interacting with anyone that calls you.
The number is in fact listed on their website as their main customer service number:

- Ben PeaseYah that number called me too. I took the plan because I'm a baller. I go over my credit limit everyday. Boojah.
- run1282This number has been calling me almost every day around 5 pm, but I haven't answered it. I know all my payments are up-to-date so I'm not worried about that. Thanks for posting the messages above... I called back and an automated machine asked for my 16-digit account number, but did not specify it was Capital One. (Maybe they would just like ALL my credit card numbers... hahaha!) Based on everything I've read, a valid company would not do this. Plus, I've never been left a message from them.
- tammyThe number is legit. If you go to the capital one website you will see that it is their customer service number. If you want the calls to stop then you can select the opt out option on the website or call the number on the back of your card and ask to speak with a rep and opt out.
- neighbor| 1 replysome lady calling representing Capitol One...asked for my wife by name, then asked for me by name...trying to get a hold of my neighbor who clearly owes them money
do we not get enough of these flippin' calls that now we need to deal with calls regarding neighbors......man...you can pick your friends but CANNOT pick your neighbors.......- Caller: Capital One
- Call type: Debt collector
- AlyssaThey have been calling me for weeks but I never picked up. Said they were Capitol One. I had checked my online account and nothing was wrong. I was finally fed up and answered. I told the woman I knew she was not from capitol one and to take my number off her calling list. She said "I AM from capitol one, and I will keep calling until you either opt in or opt out." mmm, SCAM. Fancy that they have never left a message, sent me any mail, e-mail, or left a flag on my online account to notify me of it. Don't fall for it.
- philI get this call twice a day sometimes at least 3 times a week and answer it every time. There has never been anyone on the other end which is why I became suspicious. I do have an account with capital one, which I rarely use.
- Carolyn BiterThis number keeps calling my phone, there is never anyone on the other end and no messages are left
- Caller: ?
- thedezThey keep calling and I told them I don't use the card and am not interested but refuse to stop, 800-955-7070
- thedez replies to neighborIt's against the law to call ur neighbors about a debt, if you answer them again you could remind them of this and say you do not have any neighbors by that name
- BostonI called the number. Got some dude with a thick Indian accent named Henry. I told him to put me on the do not call list. He didnt say where he was from or what company it was. I just repeatedly forcefully told him to put the number on the do not call list. I dont know where he's from I dont know if its a credit card company but I've called capital one before and never dealt with something like this. Craziness
- LalaI've been getting a call from this number several times a day, I'm not a capitol one card holder, so they are plain idiots. Luckily the idiots have my Google Voice number, Solution? I blocked the caller, now they can call me all they want, I won't be bothered and they will get a number not in service message. GOOGLE = BRILLIANT!!
- Caller: Scam Artist
- pedro| 1 replyYeah it's fake. I called it back and the first thing the automated system asks for is your credit card number. YEAH OK. I then talked to a person who had a very strong accent and was clearly reading from something who also asked for my credit card number. Ridiculous. DO NOT GIVE THE NUMBER NOOBS.
- P - Amy| 1 replyReceived this number but didn't leave a message nor it wasn't shown as a Capital One phone number on the caller ID. I don't have a Capital One account myself but my parents have one. If it was from Capital One, they should have left a message.
