I called them back, the machine asked for the 16-digit card number - I made one up. It asked for the 9(!!!!) digit social security number, I made it up again. Asked for the phone number - made it up, too. They transferred me to the representative but I hung up because - come on!- banks never EVER ask for the 9-digit SSN for the verification, only for the last 4 digits. And the fact that all numbers (16 digits+9 digits+10 digits!!!!) I made up came through, the machine apparently recognized it - that is just ridiculous! If you gave them your SSN over the phone you better contact some identity protection agency because some criminals have it in their hands now!

If were a scam, I think the person responsible for it might go on this site and claim to be someone who knew the number was legit. They might call themselves, oh, I don't know,'j' or something, and then they might call others 'idiots' and 'paranoid' in order to confuse the situation, and hopefully get more people to trust the calls. So be careful, people, it might happen. Because, really, who would care that much whether people accepted the calls? Who would be that invested in defending whoever is calling?

Wow... people sure know how to do their research, given the good ol' internets.

I got a call from this number today and ignored it.  I Google'd it and found this site, along with others saying it's a scam number.

So, since I have a Capital One card, and everything I've read says that It's a Capital One scam number, I decided to go to their website.

Go to www.capitalone.com, click on Contact Us, then click on Credit Cards... this 800 number pops up as their Customer Serivce line.

They didn't leave a message, which, they aren't obligated to anyway.  I know I've never missed a payment and I make two over-payments a month.

If they call again, I'll pick up to see what they say.

*Remember- if a credit card company or debt collections company call you about your account(s), they BY LAW have to verify pieces of your personal info they have on their screen (date of birth, zip code, street name, last 4 of social) within the first 30 seconds of the call, in order to avoid giving your sister in law details about your credit card, get it?

Why hang up when they transferred you?  It's a very common move in call centers when the person on that line can't figure anything out, they transfer it over to someone who can try to find you, since you gave them bogus info

Go to CONTACT Us on Capital One's website- this number is on there.

They aren't obligated to, just like you aren't obligated to leave a message when you call someone.

Since America is so cheap, call centers are closing all over [the one I worked at closed too], and open them up in other countries where they know they can try to save some money.  They ask for your credit card number so they can pull you up.

You're ABSOLUTELY WRONG!  An unrelated bank just went into my account and put a stop payment on a check that had already cleared weeks before, resulting in multiple fees.  They admitted it was a mistake and there was absolutely NO valid reason for it.  Financial institutions are doing ALL kinds of unethical things these days.

I have they same problem here from 800 955 7070, i think she is trying to get something from your account that's why she is asking for your 16digitcredit account info, but she's a little rough about her customer service automated voice info not enough, that means she is only using the company name or she is the capitol one employee that trying to make more money out from her service. She needs a detective that can caught her on what she is doing.

That company needs your help to act very soon.

I just dailed 18009557070 from my work # and gave account #1472583691472583 and they gave me 4 choice, 1) account information 2) Fraud 3)new application 4) can't remember. or the operator.  I hung up knowing that this is a scam since that # is not even an account #.  They are calling various times of the day and nights and I do know that they are Capital One.  Just be careful what information you give them.

The phone number is capital one. They called, referred to me by name and asked for no information at all. Said they wanted to talk to me about the new credit card legislation and I asked them remove me from the list.
The guy was very friendly and did not ask for any information regarding my account.

I'm a long time customer of Capital One.  I have 2 credit cards with them and had a loan from them.  They NEVER EVER EVER STOP calling me about stupid offers.  I've repeatedly told them to take me off their list.  This time their offer was that I can go over my credit limit for a monthly fee.  Why in today's economy would I want to go over my credit limit.  I want to cut down on debt and spending; Not increase it.  I was promised for the 3rd time this month that they would stop calling and that they've annotated it on the computer.  We'll see if it happens again.  The next time they call I'm going to cancel my credit cards whether or not it's Capital One calling me about these 2 accounts.  They asked me to verify my credit card numbers and my social security number. Of course I said NO!  I think this is some third party hired by Capital One and they are on the side phishing to sell my information to someone else.

FYI:  Caller ID's can be fake.  Just because it says Capital One's number doesn't mean it's Capital One.  Besides they list their call as Unavailable instead of Capital One.  Unless you're the one calling Capital One, don't assume the person calling you is Capital One just because they say they are.

The number is not a fraud, it's not a scam, it's just Capital One's telemarketers calling you to tell you about services. Call them back and tell them you want off the list and they'll take you off.
