I received  correspondence from a recovery company (Portfolio Recovery Associates, LLC) back in 2013. Ignored correspondence. Finally got sick of their mail. Called spoke to someone who advised  it was about a debt owed to my gas and electric company. Had moved from the address in 2003. Asked the time period. The women got really pissed when I stated I needed some kind of confirmation from the gas and electric company.
Needless to say I went to the gas and electric company and was told they had no information about a outstanding account. I thought it was strange since I had moved twice and continued to use the same utility company. To make a story short really reviewed past correspondence which stated:

"WE ARE REQUIRED BY LAW TO GIVE THE FOLLOWING INOFORMATION ABOUT THIS DEBT. THE LEAGAL TIME LIMIT (STATUE OF LIMATIONS) FOR SUING YOU TO COLLECT THIS DEBT HAS EXPIRED. HOWEVER, IF SOMEBODY SUES YOU ANYWAY TO TRY TO MAKE YOU PAY THIS DEBT, COURT RULES REQUIRES TO TELL THE COURT THAT THE STATUE OF LIMITATIONS HAS EXPIRED TO PREVENT THE CREDITOR FROM OBTAINING A JUDGEMENT. EVEN THOUGH THE STATUE OF LIMITATIONS HAS EXPIRED, YOU MAY CHOOSE TO MAKE PAYMENTS. HOWEVER, BE AWARE: IF YOU MAKE A PAYMENT, THE CREDITOR'S RIGHT TO SUE YOU TO MAKE YOU PAY THE DEBT MAY START AGAIN."

same for me for months. When I called I asked who I was calling, I got short ans. back just saying the first name of who they were looking for.. They were fishing we have the same last name.  I told them to stop calling and they hung up on me.

I got a call from this number looking for my dad. The guys name was Michael Scottfield representing  Empire Resolutions Group LLC. Saying my dad owed 14,000 on a vehicle  then they offer for me to pay 5,000 then 4,000 and then 3,000 after I told them they weren't going be able to get a hold of him,  because he is in Mexico. They threaten me, telling I will get sue for my dad and for hiding my dad. That I can even pay $100 to close the case. I got hung up twice and I return the call I got yelled at, and told "it is what it is" onces I asked if the calls were recorded I got hung up. I called back and I told them not to be calling my family or me, for someone else financial  responsibility.

P.S. the guy knew my social security number and date of birth should I be worry?

For the past 3 days I've received a call each day from a local # and voicemail with no name or company. "You may accept this message as your official notification. We've made several attempts to reach you to get a statement regarding your claim. Understand this may be your last chance to have input on our decision. If you would like to exercise this option, press 1 now or call today @ 855-396-2263."  I don't have any claims or debts lingering, so this is getting added to the block call list.

I put the address in that you gave and got a completely different company name.

I have gotten several calls from 760-406-8674 saying the same thing. They always say that it is a courtesy call and that they are doing an assess and liability search and my number has come up they say to call back at 855-396-2263 and failure to respond will be documented. My phone number is from California.

Called from a local spoofed number and said a decision would be made on my behalf and my time was coming to an end or words to that effect.  Really?

My answering machine recorded a message; caller ID said Minneapolis, MN 763-445-4982. In a threatening tone of voice, the message (which sounded like it was generated by a recording, not a live person) said something like "A liability and asset search has turned up this number. Press 1 to speak to an operator now. You may call back at 1-855-396-2263. Failure to call back will be documented as noncooperation." Guess what -- I don't return threatening phone calls. I put the 763 number on my call blocker.

Called using local number. Said he was looking for assets/liability info. Left phone number 855-396-2263.  Have received this voicemail for at least 3 weeks.  I am not home when they call and if I am I don't answer.    I am in New Jersey.

Got samething but said it was macs doing a search called from big sandy, tn on caller id.. Said to call leave message on my behalf 1855-269-1425. Did a phone search no number existed on either nor is there a company called M. A. C. S

Receiving calls daily for 2 weeks from (888) 735-4983 and then also they use a local number sometimes as well.   Same person who calls himself Michael one day and Nick the next.  We have an attorney for some outstanding medical and credit card bills who is trying to handle the situation and even he can't get straight answers or returns on messages he's leaving so he is filing a complaint for fraud on our behalf.  These guys are bottom dwellers telling us that we have only a day to pay them for an outstanding debt to a credit card company or they will be filing a lawsuit against us. Ive had three major surgeries this yewr and lost my job in November.   Its not been an easy year but we've made payments when we could. And they say if "you fail to comply and pay in full today we will have to mark you as uncomplying - it's up to you".... also - this guy who calls has a thick accent and like I said - one day his name is Nick and the next it's Michael.  Scary stuff.  The BBB has this company red flagged for a reason - they refuse to file with them and there are many complaints against them.  Please report them if you are being harassed.

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt.  It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
