- Edith AnnDon't let these scumbags intimidate you. They are just a scared voice on the other end. They cannot have you arrested. Don't worry about them, let it go and in the end they will make a desperate plea like they are trying to work with you. Ignore that too. They are working out of a moldy warehouse, former criminals, only kind of job the idiots can get. Oh, they even went as far as to play concentration camp music in the background when they called, and I sung "Amazing Grace " to them and they couldn't take it. ha Do not let your kids go hungry over these people, they are a bunch who does not have a leg to stand on. Ignore them. And you can sue their [***] off, remember the black guy they called the n word and he sued them big time?

- MARY replies to someonewhoknowsIt is true if they state they have a petition against you they have 24 hours to apply for that petition if they do not they cannot do anything what these creditors don't realize if a debt was sold to them most likely it is pretty old and in most states the SOL is four years so they cannot collect from you anyway. I got the same call I called back I told the lady that I need there address so I can send then a debt validation letter and I have not heard anything back since. It's been a week hmm.....
- MARY replies to anonymousOk people fall on hard times and with this economy it has happened this company is owned by two convicted felons and they are not a law office and they cannot disclose that they are one as a debtor you do have rights these companies will by debts that are already paid for and try to say you owe money I know because it happened to me luckily I still had the paperwork on it my account was closed and I owed no money so beware never claim something is yours until it's verified....

- debtcollector replies to GHCim sorry but i have read enough of your bs to reply to this. i am a debt collector and have been for 9 years and it is scum like you as to why this country is in the crapper. i have never used scare tactics or done anything wrong. i am extremly nice on the phone and on voicemails even to [***] like you who try and blame everyone else in the world as to why your life sucks and you owe money to everyone. In the 9 years i have worked in collections they have been very few people who i have ever known who have been drug addicts 99 percent of the employees are just people who are trying to make a living , i mean [***] if every one paid there debts there wouldnt be debt collectors, but apparently somewhere along the line either a bank or some kind of financial instatution decied to give a piece of [***] like you money and now all you do is duck and dodge them and try to find every excuse not to pay them. what would be really funny is if you loaned someone 1000 dollars then when you tried to get your money back they threatened to sue you. i wonder how all you people would act then i bet you would change your tune. so in conclusion maybe you should try someone elses shoes on befor you talk [***]
- Edmond replies to jennSay what you guys want but I had these guys bothering me about a fairly large deliquent acount of mine and I ignored them like everyone said....well low and behold I went to get a copy of my credit report this clowns were on it as CHA and the original account number from the loan....it toatally screwed me up....They may be annoying but they have single handly screwed my credit up...
- Lovemesomeme replies to NoneThanks for that comment. I agree with you 100%. I think it is people on here that work for the company. What other reason would you be on here if they didn't call you and you pay your bill on time.
- Citizen Z| 1 replyA delightful surprise to come home to! They left that canned message about the urgent need for me, or my "counsel" to contact them. (Hey, anonymous Cambridge Group readers: you don't want me to have my counsel contact you; they eat cowardly scammers like you for brunch, and then will bill you for it. Watch what you wish for.)
Why am I delighted? The idiots left a recording on my answering machine! My attorney general just LOVES to prosecute these scum-suckers! Calling me, hoping that I've been kiting checks -- brother, if you had ANY idea whose number you called, you'd be quaking in your little ballet shoes.
You rattled the wrong cage, Cambridge. And I hope you are keeping close tabs on this board, because you poked the bear. When I finish with you, you'll be the ones dodging collection agencies.
And that is a promise, numb nuts.- Caller: Cambridge Group

- responsible adult replies to Citizen ZTo " Citizen Z" & others.....First let me start by disclosing that I am a debt collector from a company similar to this in Buffalo. What a loser u are, u claim collectors are scum and cowards....the point that your missing is that your the deadbeat that took out a loan and failed to pay it back. You have enough money for your so-called attorney but you cant afford to pay your bills. The true bottom feeders are the individuals that sign a contract putting there name and reputation on the line and then default on your promise. This industry wouldnt exsist if it wasn't for losers like yourself that are not responsible enough to keep your word.
Im sure you have some lame excuse just like the next guy as to why you couldnt keep your word and pay what you rightfully owe. That being said, everything negative you say about collections agencys can be turned right around on you but worse. Simply put your nothing but a thief, if you put half as much effort into paying your bills as you do complaining you would probably be a contributing member of society.
In closing you keep being a dirtbag and scammer and we will keep laughing at you. Unlike yourself we obvioulsy have jobs and pay our bills when they are due. The funniest thing about these message boards is that we print them out and have a good laugh at your expense on a daily basis. You really have us shaking in our boots, thats for sure hahahaha. Avoid a Default Judgment
Fight a Collection Agency in Court
When sued for a debt, fight a collection agency in court to avoid a default judgment that can result in wage garnishment, bank account garnishment and credit damage.
Any individual with unpaid debts may be at risk of a lawsuit by a collection agency. Fortunately, consumers do not need an attorney to successfully defend themselves against a debt collector in court.
How a Default Judgment Works
A default judgment simply means that a plaintiff in a lawsuit wins by default. This occurs most often when the defendant does not appear in court. A defendant who appears in court and loses the case has a judgment levied against him, but not a default judgment.
In most debt lawsuit cases, the collection agency will file a formal lawsuit with the court in the debtor's county of residence. A summons is then delivered to the defendant. If the defendant does not reply to the summons within the given time frame, the judge accepts the word of the plaintiff as the truth and signs off on the judgment.
Even in cases where the debt in question is clearly outside of the state’s statute of limitations, unless the debtor replies to the summons or shows up in court to make this known to the judge, the out of statute debt will still result in a default judgment.
Reasons to Avoid a Default Judgment
A default judgment can severely injure a consumer’s financial future and should be avoided at all costs. Some of the consequences of a default judgment are:
•A judgment can cause a credit score to drop by 100 points or more, depending on how good the individual’s credit was before the ruling.
•A judgment is limited to a 7 year reporting period, but is renewable. This means it can linger on a credit report up to 20 years in some states.
•Wage garnishment is a common result of a judgment.
•A judgment may cause an individual to pay higher interest rates on loans and lines of credit for as long as it appears in the consumer’s credit file.
