    Feeling Lucky,

If you are still looking for an installer. Please send me an email and I can come and  bid on your job.  I am a cabinet installer who has recently taken KC to court and won my small claim but he appealed it that same day.

    Congrats.

    My email is Blaws4@nc.rr.com

This message is for "feeling lucky". When you say you are out of your contract and you received your money back, did you mean you had no out of pocket expenses at this point? Did you have to pay KC for those cabinets and if so how did they figure the cost?
    thanks

After hounding Kitchen Carolina (KC) one of the District Managers or VP of Quality (The titles for people kept changing, which I found odd) sent me an email stating that due to their current economic situation they would not be able to complete our kitchen installation.  (Again, odd as we financed our job 100%) So, they offered to refund what we paid minus the cabinets which had already been ordered and were sitting in Charlotte waiting for delivery.

As for the cost of the cabinets, I had been in contact with Armstrong and they provided me a what the price of our cabinets would most likely be.  After receiving the email from KC with my price after refund, I countered as I thought they quoted me an incorrect price.  I was able to do this as no where in our documentation did KC put in the price we would be paying for the cabinets.  So after some back and forth, they refunded an additional amount as the price they quoted was higher than what Armstrong quoted me.  Again, they don't seem to even understand their own business.  I was also able to get an additional refund as they messed up our hardware order, as I was told the changes we requested were taken care of by our Project Manager (at the time, it was our second PM).  They were not and no one at KC seemed to know that once the hardware order was filled, it could not be changed.  Again, this was told to me by a contact at Armstrong, not KC.

In the end we only paid for our cabinets, no other costs involved other then much of my time and aggravation.  Overall it was a bad experience. I never once felt that anyone at KC cared about our project or even seemed to know anything about what was going on with it.

We also disputed our transaction to get our money back as Kitchen Carolina was not paying for our materials, even though we had financed the entire project.

You have to hound both KC and GE, email and call every day.  Eventually they must get sick of it and credit your account.  It worked for me.

    Good luck.

    To Feeling Lucky,

My experience with KC was very similar to yours.  I would like to inquire about how much you ending up paying this company;  & would like to do it in a non-public forum.  You can reach me at benjamin_whysall@yahoo.com.

    Feeling luck,

Allow me to translate what KC has told you.

"The District Manager or VP of the week that we actually still have not run off" sent me an email stating that due to their current economic situation they would not be able to complete our kitchen installation.  This is what they should have stated to you.  Due to our lack of paying our subcontractors we no longer have any contractors that are willing to work for free and therefore will not be able to rip you off so we will not be able to complete your kitcen.

If you are going on a verbal agreement on the settlement and are waiting for a refund, their word is as clean as a litter box full of goodies.

I was told lots of things, none of which I believed.  Kitchen Carolina is a mess.  I used Armstrong and GE as leverage, and keep bugging all 3 parties until I got what I wanted.

We got our refund and are done with them.

Didn't call anyone stupid.  I used the word "stupidity" meaning: made a stupid mistake.  We all made a stupid mistake getting involved with KC.  We certainly weren't brilliant to fall for KC's pitch.  Let’s not pick at each other when the focus should be on KC.

    Installer Who Ran
While the report of poor installers is true, please do not dismiss the fact that there were many long standing, small companies left with limited choices in this economy who became victims of this predatory company.  We exhibited the highest degree of professionalism, did top-notch work, received outstanding customer reviews, and then we left due to poor business ethics and non-payment. I agree the KC screening process is grossly ineffective because I witnessed shabby work of others, but the sad thing is that top professionals were treated equally as bad. This company's net was too wide and they pulled in all sorts of people and at the same time ran off the good. Hopefully, KC will be left with the caliber of individuals they deserve. Most importantly, we hope the State of NC will dissolve this company so we don’t have to watch a squeal.

For anyone out there who got out of their contract, but ended up with cabinets.

We have found an installer who has experience with Kitchen Carolina and has indicated they are known for having incorrect measurements on the 20x20 and forgetting things like trim and finishing pieces when ordering the cabinets.

KC HATER replies to Feeling Lucky
KC totally measured my kitchen wrong.  It was a nightmare from the beginning.  Rob Selfors is a crook and has some serious mental health issues.  my 6 day kitchen remodel dragged on for 14 weeks.  I was stupid enough to pay 1/2 of the remodel costs upfront.  I luckily did not pay the second half until the kitchen was "done." I finally just gave up and settled for what I could just to get Rob and KC OUT of my life!

OMG, KC really is a piece of work.  They are spending more time creating a Rumors & Myths page rather then update their Customer Service page.

I found out yesterday that Brian is no longer with KC (I think Adam left in Dec), yet both are still listed as GMs on the Customer Service page with email and phone numbers.

    So sad!!!

We took on a few clients of "kitchen carolina" they had very poor workmanship hired and we went in trying to make something good out of a mess. Not all of this was Kitchen Carolina's fault. The poor communication and not screening subs was a big part. Never the less we completed many kitchens with good results unfortuneately we ended up spending alot of our own money to make customers happy. So as result to contractors and customers, when having work done to a home, car etc please check out who you are interested in thourghly. Best of luck to all.

They are still around and some people "like myself" are trying to fix the mess that has been created. First they got too big too fast and without the help of acredited sub-contractors such as my co. We have spent our own money to try and kepp a smile on customers faces so that they can trust local small companies again. Kitchen Carolina just had some poor business ethics and made some costly decisions. It is a great concept but you have to have the right people to run a strong business in these times. Best of luck to all sub's and homeowners [ridinwaves91@yahoo.com].

I've put many liens against homes and won about 7 out of 11 in the past 12 yrs. But an easier solution is to do what we do, KC owns money for materials or work just pull up the hard wood and have the homeowner take it up with KC, very simple and no one gets a lien put against a home. Trust me it works if you need some reassuring just let me know. KC unfortunately only hired a few of us who are licensed, bonded and insured what a mess they have created but slowly they will be pushed out of business and people will go on with their lives another day.

we have been fixing KC messes for a few weeks now. Unfortunately many factors are at play here and many people shooting each other down. KC got too many customers and not enough "Quality insured, bonded, licensed" or professional sub's. I am only one company and every home I've gone into with full confidence of working for and with the homeowners over and above what KC standards are, and yes they own us alot of money but I have hopes that they will pay and I am finishing one customer at a time. Their concept of improving kitchens is a great one and increases the value of a home but you got to have the right people incharge and the right people making the end result happen.(ridinwaves91@yahoo.com) I've never been affraid to talk to or help a homeowner out in anyway.

I refer everyone to the Graham City Police Report that luckily Stated installers were not paid and the company shut it's doors due to financial problems on 12/2/09. Wonder how this effects all contracts(ask your attorney). For more information - go to the complaint board. This official report does not say only contractors who did poor work were not paid-it clearly states otherwise. In this police report Kitchen Carolina's General Managers outline what occured, leaving only 1 conclusion - You are lying. NO one with any sense would believe this rhetoric! Additionally, the laughable Final Lien Release form states that KC will pay subs when you get funds obviously that means you did not have funds to pay subs, can it mean anything else? Also, emails and other information absolutely prove this. My personal question is - where did the job revenue go for the job expenses? Perhaps, some former employees can answer this?????
