i work for them, calling people from that number. the only information we need from you is a zip code, to verify it is you that we have reached. anyone can get your zip code from the phone book and you share it with how many people?  people are sooo scared to give out a zip code, it is super annoying.

This is capital one calling card members for upgrades to their account.  They call and do not leave a message.  Called to stop this waited 10 minutes to get a manager, Jo, who needed ALL my info.  She would not refer this to upper management to stop this annoying phone solicitation.  They claim they are not breaking the law.  I am on the Do not call registery.  Does anyone know if they do anything?  I reported this with them and other annoying calls and never got any info back.

Someone called from this number. Did not leave a message. I'm not taking any chances, I'll get in touch with the State's Attorney. They just nailed the guy from the identity theft commercial for misleading advertising.

I just got a call from this number (800-955-7070) about 10 minutes ago. It was a live person, very nice, from Capital One.  He only asked for my zip code, which I gave him, because you can get that anywhere. He said he was calling in regards to my account, and he gave me the last 4 number of my card. He wanted to know if I was interested in signing up for their Identify Alert Program at $12.99 a month. I said no.  He then asked if my decision was because of the cost or if I just didn't feel a need for it.  I told him both and that I check my account daily.  He then gave me two websites that I could check out if I wanted further information:  www.myidalert and www.cardtheftprotection.  He then thanked me and said Good-Bye. No pressure or hassle. I went to the www.myidalert website and it showed that Capital One is partnered with Intersections Inc. for this service. The website had the BBB seal.  So this call was legit.  Anyone that is getting calls where they are asking for your account number is being scammed.....but I don't know why Capital One's phone number is showing up in your phone ID.  I did read somewhere that there is a way for scammers to use the phone numbers of legit companies.

Hmmm... Well, I had call like this before asking for my zip code so my name could be taken out of the auto-call que, and I didn't think anything of it. Then a week later my card had a couple small transactions made on it. I don't even use my Capital One card. So I called and the rep from CapOne told me to never give out any info whatsoever. He said they have your zip right in front of them, along with all of your other account information, so they shouldn't have to ask you for it. Sooooo, it's safe to give this info out, is it? Probably not.

    Ben,

Someone has fed you a load of horse feathers or worse.  Since Check 21 was implemented, anyone presenting a draft to your bank can get your money and if you don't contest it (in writing) within 60 days the bank does not have to fix the problem.

Protect yourself by keeping the least you can in checking and the rest in separate accounts of almost any kind (savings, CD, etc.)

These people are CapitalOne? I don't even have an account with them! How do they have my cell phone number? Received a call not even 5 minutes ago and ignored it, no message/voicemail was left.

Scratch my last post -- the number left me a voicemail in regards to an April Saunders, and needing to discuss a confidential matter. I've had another number call my cell phone about her, so I guess I need to find out who this is...

I have recently filed a fraud claim and have been warned by me internet provider of phishing and/or scam phone calls.I am inquiring about 1-800-215-1921 or 1-888-618-8898.They are claiming to be Capital One representatives, however;I am skeptical after the online scheme that I experienced.

I received a missed call from this number today, but they didn't leave a message.  The only time that Capital One called me, they left a message and it was about some fraudulent activity on my account and they had suspended my account until I called them back.  Do not give out your credit card number to any automated service unless you're SURE you're calling the right number!
