when you settle a debt it is reprted as settled yto the credit agencies but that amount unpaid can still be considered owed and some agencies do buy these debts and attempt to collect on them.

I keep receiving calls from this #. They never leave a message. I finally picked up today and the guy asked to speak w me by my first name. When I asked what it was in regards to, he wouldn't say. He gave his name as James hicks. There was a baby crying in the background and at one point he laughed for no reason! I just hung up.

866-212-7408... They also use 310-703-5788 out of Inglewood, CA... Be aware that the Federal Fair Debt Practices Act protects debtors in several ways by governing how a collection agency may attempt to collect a debt from you. One of the main things it covers is harrassment by phone. An agency may NOT call you at your place of employment without your permission. They may call you ONCE a day (maybe longer, the Act has been updated since I read it) and ONLY once, IF they make personal contact with you. If they get an answering machine or you don't answer, they may call back even if they leave a msg. Some agencies do the recorded msg or hang up on their end when you person ball answer the phone thinking that they can call back because they haven't made personal contact with you as the law dictates, but this too is harrassment. They can send you as many letters as they want. One thing people sometimes don't realize... You may send a collection agency a "Cease and Desist" letter in which you tell them to "cease and desist" from personal contact with you and specify that they may ONLY contact you by mail. These laws protecting debtors from harassing creditors have been around for awhile, but most people don't know about them. You have the right to sue a creditor if you keep phone records and tape conversations with those that break the law, but most people don't because of the cost of legal fees to fight them, obviously, so it helps to have sites like this where it brings about the possibility of several of us dealing with the same agency, getting together to file a class action in order to share the fees if we decide to act against an agency like RPM who violates the laws set forth in acts like the one written.
Also, on another subject, but one of my favorites pet peeves... I hate it when I'm forced to show ID with my credit card! It just says that the merchant doesn't trust me. Sure, some of you have been brainwashed into thinking that it protects you, but all you have to do is call VISA or MasterCard if you see a bogus charge, and they HAVE to remove it and credit your account back, so really, the only one at risk is the merchant and they are lying to you to protect themselves. Both VISA and MasterCard stipulate in their agreement with merchants, they shall NOT ask for ID with their card when presented for payment of goods or services. The merchant may only compare the signature on the back of the card with the one on the receipt you sign at the register. Also, you may use someone else's card with their permission stated in a note from them with a signature that matches the one on the card. One other note, some people who mistakenly believe they are at risk of being held responsible for the charge on a bogus purchase, think they are protecting themselves by writing, "See my ID" , in the signature area of their credit card. Both VISA and MasterCard dictate these cards to be INVALID because it is not the card holders' signature and the card itself is not valid without a valid signature. These people also overlook the obvious fault that it is much easier to make a false ID than it is to duplicate someone's signature and the more obvious fact that any professional thief capable of elaborate signature or ID forgery isn't going to waste his time with small time stuff like a credit card with a few thousand dollar limit nor is he going to frequent some place where his face would be remembered like the local mall, my point being that nowadays, credit card companies usually ask for a call in confirmation when you are making a purchase outside your local area. That's it, I'm rambling... Hope I helped someone here.

    Cranky Dad
These jerks have been calling my minor son's cell phone for a couple months now.  The other numbers they have used are: 866-212-7420 and 240-210-7114.  He told them he is not the person they are looking for...Bob something.  So, Bob is also a jerk for providing a false number that my son has had for almost a year.

I did file a do not call complaint and also went to the RPM site and left a note that they were calling a minor, have been asked to stop, reported to the fcc, and that I will pursue legal harassment charges against them.

The only good news is that they seem happy to leave messages that we are happy to provide as evidence.

It's better with your cell to just use the Mr Number app. Let's you choose whether to immediately hang up on a number, or send them straight to voicemail if you don't want to deal with them.
