Warning, the posts saying this is not legit call are from people ignorant that banks do ask for basic info to verify the caller.

When I answered the call, it was an automated call indicating that they were calling from the US Bank Fraud department to verify several potentially fraudulent charges on my account. I listened to the charges, and none of them were charges that I had authorized. I was put on hold to be transferred to a representative. While on hold, I pulled up my account online, and the charges mentioned were not there. Since it seemed kind of sketchy, I hung up and called the number for Cardmember Services on the back of my card. There were, in fact, fraudulent charges on my account that hadn't posted online yet, and I was transferred to the fraud department. My card has now been cancelled and I'm being issued a new one. So, while I can't verify whether the original phone call was a scam or not, the information provided in the automated call was accurate. Either way, I would suggest calling your cardmember services directly rather than giving them any of your personal info just to be safe.

Yes, this apparently is an automated dialer from USBank's fraud detection unit.  I did not answer the call, but I did call the number on the back of the card and asked if 800-379-8461 was indeed a number for USBank and I was assured that it was.  The rep explained that when there is a fraud detection event the automatic dialer will call to alert you about it and ask that you call the bank.

The really strange thing is I have not used this card since November (5 months ago) and there were no attempted uses or purchases with the card, so she could not explain why the fraud detection thingie was triggered.  My guess is that scammers have found a way to make that number display so that you THINK you're talking to USBank.

RECOMMENDATION:  If you get a call from this number, don't answer it.  Immediately call the Card Service number on the back of your card and talk to a rep.

    (800)379-8461 Caller ID: TOLL-FREE -

This number is a scam.  The automated message did not identify itself as US Bank.  I just contacted US Bank customer service number at the back of my card.  US Bank representative specifically stated that number does NOT belong to US Bank Fraud Prevention.

I received a call about potential fraud on my credit card through US Bank.  This is a real phone number because they were about to tell ME information that no one else would know but US Bank.  (Example the transactions that posted to my account).   Someone did try to use my card at a hotel and best buy.  It wasn't me!  I went into my account online the next day--the last 4 of the credit card number is changed. If it were fraud/phishing they wouldn't have issued a new credit card number.  I like how people are trolling on here that aren't even customers of this creditor.

If you believe it's a scam you can call the credit card number on the back and they can transfer you to their department.

July 25, 2013    IT'S A SCAM !!!!!!  I took the number (800-379-8461) to my US Bank and they told me it was a scam.  If anyone say's it's legit, it's probably the scammer.  US Bank already knows your information, and they won't call you for it.  Play it safe and go to your bank.  I also got a call from 913-725-6115 Card Member SVCS Kansas City.  My bank called that number and found it to be a scam also.  I got called the same day, by both numbers.  I didn't answer the phone, each time.  I have caller ID.  Nothing is that important that you can't wait to go to the bank.

I received a call from this number to my home phone...my home number is not attached to my US Bank account. They left a message advising me of fraudulent activity on my credit card.

I immediately call the number ON THE BACK OF MY CARD. The actual US Bank representative said there was no strange activity to report of. All the transactions were current and regular. Nothing out of the ordinary. I was told by the representative no one would call besides them to report such activity.

I would advise against calling the number back...they ask for all of you personal information without any sort of verification on their end. Sounds like a scam to me. Do not give them your info. Just call your bank!!

This WAS US BANK's FRAUD DEPARTMENT!  I am so happy I called the back of my card and was told that the number that was left was a legitimate # and that someone had tried to use my card at 4 separate locations yesterday.  Only 1 of the transactions went through, the other 3 were stopped.  Please don't believe that this a scam #, because it's NOT!  But, that being said, if you're in doubt, call your Credit Card Company directly using the # on the back of the card.  And, NO I am not a part of any fraud.  Just someone who almost got taken for $900.00

YES, this IS LEGIT   !!!!      Called them right away.....
I got a message that this # 800-379-8461 called.  I got suspicious and immediately looked for my credit card.  LO AND BEHOLD - I could NOT find my credit card.  Knowing that I just lost my card I DID CALL back.  THANK GOODNESS - they told me my card was being used -- "in an out-of-the-ordinary" way and asked me if I made such-and-such purchases.  "NO", I did not make such purchases.  They cleared me of the purchases and closed the card account per my request.
Please note:  This phone # is not the same # on my credit card which is the number to the company of MY credit card.  This 800 # is the company for ALL credit cards.

I hung up when this number began an automated thing about there being a possible fraudulent charge on my credit card.  Then, to be safe, I called my credit card customer service number.  There was a fraudulent charge on my card!  The supervisor assured me that the 800-379-8461 number is one that is used by their automated fraud notification system, and that the number is legitimate.

Someone in Miami had charged nearly $700 on my card, and I have not been to Miami in 40 years, living a thousand miles from there.

If you do get calls such as this one, the best plan is NOT to give any information on the phone.  Hang up and call your credit card's customer service number.

This is a legitimate number for US Bank.  I goofed while using the card to buy gasoline and the next time I tried to use the card it was declined.  At the same time I got an email letting me know there was a possible fraudulent use of the card.  I had to call US Bank to get my card reactivated.  But just to be safe, of course you should call the number on your card and not give out any information to someone who calls YOU as opposed to you calling them.

We were on vacation and received a call that I missed stating on the voice mail they were the fraud dept.  I called them back, went through the automated steps and it said that someone tried to withdraw 10,000 from our account.  It was my husbands card so he called back.  It was a card we do not carry, and he gave them his ss# and they said they were shutting it down.  When I got home a few days later I found the card filed and it had never even be activated so he called the number on back of the card and they did verify that it was them that called.  iT IS LEGIT, but very scary when you see all the  posts.  My advise NEVER give put your ss# and if you have the card on you call the nber on it.  However like us, if you don't have the card on you, call them and verify by another means.
