- Fraud SquadThere is a similar pattern here as with other reported fake calls claiming to be from Citibank, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, US Bank, RBC, PayPal, etc. all with the same large number of bogus posts insisting the call is "legitimate" - likely originating from the same crime ring -

https://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-888-800-5234- Caller: Bogus U.S. Bank Phishing Fraud
- Sam| 1 replyI have a card from Key Bank, our cards are apparently serviced by another company Alan or Elan or something like that, who uses the same fraud service as US Bank. The gentleman I talked to, Sean, said that he worked at a call center in KS. I put that into google and sure enough there is a US Bank call center in the 913 area code....
- Caller: Key Bank
- Sam replies to SamPS the number on caller id was 913-725-6115
- Joe!This is legitimate for USBank Fraud Prevention. I wan't sure so I called the number on the back of my card and there WAS a bad charge and they had a record of the automated system calling me earlier that day.
- Caller: USBANK
- Dawn| 1 replyWe got a call from this number. I am a very suspicious person and hung up on them only to have them call back a couple more times. Each time I hung up. I looked up the number on the internet and found this site. I called the number on the back of my credit card and yes there was the charge. ALWAYS call the number on the back of your card. You may have a lot of cards but it is worth it. They cancelled my card today and I will have another in a couple of days. I am so grateful people post. Thank you people.
- Caller: 8003798461
- StevoIt is legit, just called and they only asked for zip code and then read me my last 3 transactions, asked me to verify them because they were all over the world and blocked. No problems with the number, transactions now authorized.
- Caller: US Bank Fraud Dept.
- Bill replies to Phishing Fraud AlertThat's funny because I confirmed with US Bank that it WAS a legitimate number. Hummm.... maybe you are the one trying to scam the people by telling them to ignore calling back.
- Leslie replies to haroldThat's the problem. You don't think. Maybe the card company had an old number for the folks listed on the account. Perhaps the people moved and never thought about updating their phone information with the card company. Then you, dummy that you are, come along and get this phone number. This is how a card company would make a mistake by calling the "wrong" party. YA THINK.
- RRI got a call like everyone else and didn't recognize the number 800-379-8461. I called the number on the back of my card US Bank Visa Customer serverice and there was a fraud alert on my card. They transfered me to fraud prevention and someone had just tried to use my card in FL a half an hour earlier. They declined the transaction at the time. US Bank cancelled my card and are going to be sending me a new one.

- KyleGot the call today, called the number and it was very static-e. I hung up and called 800-us-bank and they told me this number does not belong to them and gave me the real number to the fraud line. Do NOT give this number any information! If you get a call from here call US bank immediatly!
- Caller: fraud us bank
- Rose in SCI didn't recognize the number so, like always, I didn't pick up the phone, but came here instead.
My husband has an REI Visa card with US Bank, so after reading the comments, we immediately called customer service using the number on his card.
Sure enough, we also were told of three fraudulent charges on his REI card.
The card/account has been canceled and a new card with a new account number is on the way.
The charges weren't a lot, less than $30 total, but one was in California, one in Texas and one in Florida. ?!?!?
BTW, under "Call Type" I wish there was an option for "legit call".- Caller: US Bank Fraud Dept
- Call type: Non-profit organization
- REI fanThis is a LEGITMATE call from US Bank's Fraud Prevention Dept regarding REI Visa credit cards.
Got a call at work from 800-379-8461. I didn't recognize the number, so I Googled it & it led me here. Noticed a few people here mentioned US Bank/REI Visa. Since I do have an REI Visa, I called the number on the back of my card (1-877-REI-8742). Once I entered in my CC#, they immediately transferred to their Fraud Prevention Dept.
They went over some charges that were logged out of my home area. Luckily, they were legitimate charges, but since the charges initiated from several states away, that flagged it.
The rep unblocked my account. Glad they called because I would have found out the hard way it was blocked probably at while trying to pay at the register.- Caller: US Bank Fraud Prevention Dept
- MikeI got this same call. I called the number for customer service that is on my credit card and it immediately transfered to the fraud department. They correctly knew the last two legit charges on my card, and also told me about a third charge which was not legit.
As best I can tell this is a 100% legit call, but I advise calling the customer service number on your card anyway. - DanielleThe text and voicemail were legitimate. However, I called US Bank directly, and the account person confirmed that I had been contacted by their Fraud Dept and transferred me over to them. I did indeed have a fraudulent pending charge on my account. The fraud person also said I could have called the number on the back of my credit card and I would have been transferred to her as well. So any questions, call the number on the back of your card!

- Gary5/03/2012: The call I got today from this number was NOT a scam. Read on.
First - whether or not you believe your call was a scam, protect yourself by NEVER calling back to the number left on your voice mail. INSTEAD, CALL THE NUMBER ON THE BACK OF YOUR CARD to determine if the security alert is for real. If there is a problem, you'll be glad that you called the right place to get it resolved. If not for real, then at least you've gotten trusted information to ease your mind.
Next - since the voice mail I received already included my full name and the last 4 digits of my credit card, I was pretty certain the alert was for real. To be sure, I tried on-line access to my credit account. A big red security alert message instantly popped up. That was a solid clue.
Finally - I called the number on the back of my credit card. The menu system immediately shifted me to the Fraud Prevention track. After being asked the usual identity questions, the fraud representative told me about two very suspicious charges to my account today. When I advised her that I hadn't used my card at all today, she told me about the remedy process that would be followed. The short version is, I will have a new account number before the week is over, and I don't have to worry about paying the two fraudulent charges to my old account. - Gary| 1 replyOK, I just read all the comments about this number. I don't know what motivates the folks telling you that this is a scam, but judge for yourself. Read the many posts from people who called their own credit card issuer and learned - positively - that there had been fraudulent charges made to their account. Where is the scam in that?? I was one of those folks, and I feel relieved to know it is fixed.
I also read posts by folks who called their own bank & learned that there had been no fraudulent charges. Great! That means the detection system is so sensitive that the alarm is tripped by anything unusual. What's the harm in that? I think that too sensitive is better than not sensitive enough. Even if you think different, that still isn't reason to declare that the security alert was a scam.
If you still think the number is a scam and anyone saying it worked for them is a SHILL, then ask yourself this:
Why would a SHILL tell you to ALWAYS CALL YOUR OWN CREDIT CARD ISSUER DIRECTLY, and warn you to NEVER CALL THE NUMBER GIVEN IN THAT SECURITY ALERT? - TJust got a call from the number 8:43am...don't think any company like this is supposed to call before 9am or so. I didn't answer the call since it was 800 number.
