- Siobhon| 2 repliesCalled on my cell phn about a possible pending case against me. I advised them to mail any and all information to me.
- Caller: Dont Know
- Brent| 2 repliesCaller refused to state their company name because it was a private firm. Said she needed me to give their number to my dad because he has a case against him. However, I know my dad has no cases of litigation against him at all. He's a straight edged painter and truck driver. Caller hung up after I questioned the legitimacy of the call.
- Elspeth replies to Brent| 1 replyLegitimate companies will have no problem giving you their name and physical address - the fact your callers refused to do so speaks volumes. Legitimate callers also would not breach privacy laws by telling you about an alleged "case" against someone else. So.... that's two strikes already - two violations of federal law. Please do report these jokers to the FTC, FBI and your state's Attorney General.

- Fed up with these clowns| 2 repliesHave called my residence phone number repeatedly looking for the people who had this number prior to me. I have had it over four years. When I explain the situation, they hang up on me mid-sentence. Last time I called back, and was treated unprofessionally. Unfortunately, I responded in kind.
- Caller: Unidentified
- Alfalfa replies to Fed up with these clowns| 1 replyThe Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:
-is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
-refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
-asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
-exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.
If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.
Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft, charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate but you think the collector may not be, contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.
http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0258-fake-debt-collectors - MonicaSomeone from this number called my Dad to inquire about me. My Dad was very concerned and wanted to know if I was in any trouble. I'm very disturbed and annoyed that some scam artist is bothering my Dad to get information about me. How did they get his phone number??? After calming my Dad down, I called the phone number he gave me, 855-948-9675. All it did was ring...I'm really ticked off that they're bothering my Dad with this foolishness!!!
- Deadbeat StepsonI have a "stepson" (I had nothing to do with his upbringing) who currently is living with us and I repeatedly get calls looking for him. Some are legit, some aren't.
Bottom line: READ ALFALFA's post above and follow it. Legit companies will identify themselves and follow proper procedures as outlined. Fake one's will not. And don't pay ANYBODY ANYTHING until you are absolutely sure who you are dealing with!- Caller: 8559489675

- ShillKillFor at least the last year, an illegal group of debt collectors have been terrorizing consumers, their family, friends, and employees threatening to arrest the individual of an unpaid loan or other debt (their generally don't even owe). Be aware debt is a civil matter, not a criminal matter, and you can't be arrested. They threaten a warrant if the victim does not pay a sum of money by the credit card over the phone.
Some of the people they are calling do not owe a debt. Others they are calling have already settled their debt with the organization who owns the accounts. Even if you do owe a debt, do not be deceived by the actions of this group. Many of the accounts they are attempting to collect they do not own. In other words, if you pay these people, that is not going to clear your debt with its rightful owner.
Although when pressed the callers give the victim an address in Columbia South Carolina (usually a vacant lot) or Atlanta GA (often a parking lot near the bus station or a Peachtree Road Address). They are actually out of the Charlotte North Carolina area. The scammers are using the following business names (and there are many others, and they seem to create new ones daily). They will normally answer the call back number as “Investigations”
Reynolds, Hill, and Associates
Berkley and Associates
Kaufmann and Associates
Sanderson Blaine & Associates
Blaine and Associates
McKenzie Reid Associates
Kennedy, Kline, & Associates
Nationwide Asset and Recovery
Piedmont Investigations and Procurement

Here is a set of links to a variety of threads on this forum that document this group and its behavior. They include the experiences of victims as well as a former employee or two that quit within a week of finding out exactly what was going on. They also include responses from consumer advocates and people who are really criminal justice professionals advising victims of what to do

- Do not callI just received an automated message for my ex-husband (whom I have not spoken to in over 10 years) to call 855-948-9675 with a case number. I called back and after several rings someone answered by saying "investigations". I let them know I received a call and needed to have my number removed from their database, since my ex-husband did not live here. The person hung up on me. I called back and let the next person who answered the phone know that I just asked someone to remove my number and they hung up on me, and that I would like to speak to a supervisor to make sure this is taken care of. The person to whom I was speaking with this time, told me, that's "why you got hung up on, you need to stop calling back," then she hung up on me as well. I do not know who these people are or what they want, but they obviously lack customer service training.
- Soccer momI too got a phone call today - I think these people have called me before and I told them to stop calling! I called back and they answered the phone "investigations" (like is that suppose to scare people ?) I said why are u calling - she said is this me and I said yes - she said is this the last four of ur social ? It was close but she had two of the numbers mixed up so I said No - she said we will remove u - I said yes do that ! I am so sick of these calls - I wish these people would get a real job and stop harassing people!!!
- Caller: Didn't say

- Not a nice person replies to SiobhonWhen this scum of a company called my 82 year old mother and upset her for someone who does not live with her, I proceeded to call them back a number of times. If they are "man enough" to harass an 82 year old lady then my repeated phone call trying to inquire name of the company should not have any effect on them. They repeatedly refused not only their first and last name but also the name of their company. WHAT ARE THEY TRYING TO HIDE!!!!!!
- Fed up| 1 replyThese people called me today from this 855-948-9675 number they had my Social Security number and they wanted to verify my address so when I asked some questions and the woman got rude and hung up I called back again got somebody else and she was telling me that I had all these cases pending but what was really scary is that they said I had a payday loan with a company XY Z which I did . They kept threatening to take me to court . When I asked for info to give my attorney they hung up. They had enough info to be really scary . Reading these posts really helped . Thanks !
