Just called. Didn't answer. Left no message. Wonder if it has to do with scammers on craigslist as I have something up for sale on there...I'm not aware of any debts tied to the family so idk...

Portfolio recovery services. Scumbags that have been calling me hundreds of times a year since 2007 for a debt that originally belonged to someone else that I never heard of. Evidently if you have a P.O. box that is in the same address as anybody else who ever owed anybody money ( there are 1400 box holders at my P.O. box ) Portfolio recovery services will search databases until some current resident has that same P.O. address and if your name comes up the debt then becomes yours. They have hundreds of different collectors that use a spoofing device to cloak the numbers that you see on your caller ID.

Here is everything you need to know to send them a certified "not me" letter, or to sue them.  I would go the suing route, you may get lucky and get another 82 million dollar verdict against them like the woman who sued them in New Mexico:

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt.  It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of the date of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.

Another one of many numbers for the scumbag debt collector Portfolio Recovery LLC out of VA. They have been calling me for almost two years looking for an old college roommate who might owe them money. They know he no longer lives here. I do not answer calls from unfamiliar numbers and they will not get any info from me regarding roommate who is in the process of filing bankruptcy. So you scumbags keep on calling, You will never get answer. If I do make the mistake and answer Ill just tell you go F your mother. That's all folks

Exactly. They're POS who go to the ends of the earth to find someone, ANYone who they can scare into talking about dead debt. Guess what? The second you acknowledge or start talking about an old or out of statute debt---IT COMES BACK TO LIFE AND THE TIME STARTS ALL OVER AGAIN!  I wouldn't work for those prices of crap if they were the only paying job on the planet. They called me on my cell phone looking for my wife. She said they were calling me of a recorded line I'm assuming it was a bill collector of some sort.
