- S replies to PixieOh, my, Pixie. You are so right. I accidentally posted a resume to Monster as public this morning. I didn't notice until I got a message from a recruiter a few hours later. Guess who called me this evening!!!! I changed it to provate so fast!
- Duane replies to daracaraThank you very much!!
- cadajaWe've never taken out a payday loan. We've received calls like this before. Reported to police department, and was told it was a scam. This same officer told me he even received a call. Last week in our town newspaper, was an article about this. Block call.
- K MeierUnwanted phone call. No message. I never answer phone calls from a number I do not recognize. After seeing the messages on here, I am glad I have that policy. Yet another phone number on my ever growing list of blocked numbers. These people have to eventually run out of phone numbers, right?
- Caller: unknown/payday loan?
- Kelly| 1 replyYup, Portfolio Recovery. Don't EVER pay them a dime. they buy your debt for litterally pennies on the dollar, so if you pay them they laugh all the way to the bank. If you want/need to settle a debt, call your original creditor and make a deal, no corp. says no to money.
- Caller: Portfolio Recovery
- Call type: Debt collector
- Bill replies to Seriously?Dumb [***]
- Bill replies to daracaraThank you. They can kiss the bottom side of what ever gets in their way.
- TannieThey call my phone at least 10x's a day and hang up. I was finally able to block them with the Iphone. Thanks for letting me know who this was.
- Caller: Portfolio Recovery
- Call type: Debt collector
- katherine| 1 replycalled my cell phone number asking for my husband. i told them this is his wife what is this about she kept saying this is ms. hill and may i speak to him. too, funny, cause im the one who fixed our credit and had zombie debt deleted.. now they want to re-age it... not happening, look up your rights under debt that is past 7 yrs old...
- Caller: portfolio recovery
- Call type: Debt collector
- Alfalfa replies to katherineYep. Exactly.
BTW---If they are calling your cell phone and without your consent, you can take them to court and sue them for up to $1,500 per call. This is a violation of the TCPA. - Shanna| 1 replyThey called me like 6 or 7 years ago claiming it was for a credit card from 2000 or 2001...I told them I never in my life had a credit card with who they claimed was the original creditor...then they said it used to be some other bank...nope! still never had an account. I said please send me some documentation...they said they couldn't, but want me to give them my bank account number to make payment...ridiculous. They called me constantly for a little while, then I actually didn't hear from them for a couple years, now they call me every couple of months. It's still frustrating to still be getting calls years later. I do not have any old credit card bills or loans outstanding and am so sick of hearing from these people...and if I did happen to have something and was not remembering, no sane person would pay these people anything without someone being able to show them what the debt is even for.

They were listed among the worst offenders on the late Bud Hibb's site!
Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of the date of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
Read up on your rights here, get template letters to send and also make a complaint at this government site: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/
Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.

File a complaint at the NY State AG's Office here: http://www.ag.ny.gov/ - GaryAnother call from the scammers at "PORTFOLIO RECOV". I didn't answer it, as usual. If people would quit answering the phone every time it rings and get their money's worth out of the caller id that most have, these lying scammers would move on to another scam. If you really owed a bill, it would come in the mail first. :-)
- Stellathis caller refused to leave any message when i spoke with them they refused to identify themselves. When i said i do not recieve cold calls from numbers i do not know they hung up
- shannon replies to Angie B| 1 replyCalling you names is a direct violation of your rights under the Federal Debt Collection Practices Act. (FDCPA) For each individual offense, you can sue a Collection Company for $1000.00 or more.
Call a lawyer who will work for free, and get not only the debt cleared, but maybe a settlement. The lawyer will get a portion of what they collect for you. Lawyer has nothing to lose on legitimate cases, and you are not out of pocket. - cooper replies to Seriously? If you say pay your bills you are right. But "seriously" why are you on here if you yourself aren't googling the number who called you, unless you are googling your own phone number.
- matt replies to Angie B| 4 repliesNo disrespect, but I don't think its a good idea to take out loans from companies and intend not to pay them back because "they weren't validated" in your state and you don't HAVE to pay them back. If that was the case I am sure everyone would be doing it and there is a reason it is in collections and on your credit report
- MidNYteStorm replies to mattThank for proving to me that this debt telemaggoter should not be trusted.
- Tamianth replies to mattOnce again, try reading "Matt"!
All of this has been through the courts and company's like this getting socked fines for going there! I have no sympathy for any loan company that breaks the laws, they deserved it, they knew what they did was illegal! And company's such as this still trying to collect only place themselves in jeopardy of fines since they where told too bad how sad! Not to mention some have already been sued by the states for even trying to collect those illegal loans.
Before you run off at the face, do your homework.. these things have been all over the news! Here's a nice little link for you to go read up on payday loans and the laws per state..
