As far as I was told, they sell your account before the statue of limitations to another collector and the process starts all over again.

You were told wrong. A debt can not be re-aged by its sale. The SOLs in regards to debts vary by state. Once a debt has become time barred in the debtors state that debt is invalid & can not be successfully pursued in court.

Yep.  Another one of their spoofed Caller ID numbers trying to contact me regarding a non-existent "debt" with a company I never even heard of.

Calls on 5/8 and on 5/11. Portfolio Recovery. I didn't answer and no message was left. Also called from 858-568-7619 on 5/8.

This number has called me MANY times, never leaves a message, I just don't answer. Thanks to all people who have made a report and for letting me know its from a debt collector. Damn ex-husband who has been out of my house for 6 years now!!!

Portfolio Recovery is the worst - do not try to reason with them - do not answer - block calls - Hang up.

For those of you that do owe a debt DO NOT PAY Portfolio Recovery - treat them the same way they treat others - F - them.

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt.  It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of the date of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.

Quite a while ago, I'm guessing 10 years or more, we started getting calls from some [***] asking for a person we had never heard of. Apparently, this person (supposedly) owed money they were trying to collect. We kept telling them there was no such person here, nor had we ever heard them, and to stop calling, but they persisted. I told them off, yelling over the phone. Eventually, I guess they gave up, but it took months. Now, we have these new (or are they the same ones?) [***], but now, we have a call blocker. They have upped their game though, changing the number every few days. Still, it's fun to just push a buttom and bam, the phone stops ringing, and it blocks them until they change the number. Do Not Call is a joke. We stopped reporting numbers there years ago.
Call type should list Scam, because that's what it is. Probably a criminal organization.

Depends on who's calling.  Bill Collector?  Illegal as hell (Violation of various Debt Collections Practices laws in the various States and a violation of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act if they're third party...).  Telemarketer?  Depends on the class of line, actually- it's illegal all the time to call a Google Voice, SIP, or Mobile Number unless they (being any business) making an automated call of *ANY* kind without express written consent (To whit, giving the number as part of a credit or similar application does not count- and is illegal for them to put it in the boilerplate for consent...).

I receive at least 3-4 calls from various robo or numbers that are not known to me or strange titles. I have call block through which allows you 12 on your list. My list is full. I still get calls. How do I handle this.

You can also forward their calls to a fake number. I use the Westboro Baptist Church. I figure they are rude idiots so they might get along with Portfolio.
