Yeah they do!  I get calls from about 20 different numbers!

I too have about 45 numbers from Portfolio. They do call back on those numbers so it's worth saving them so you know who they are without answering. I save them as SPAM010112014 (the date they call) and then when I get a new phone I have them saved. I just got a call from them on this number I am checking here which I have labeled 08252011--do they have been using that this 620 number since at least 2011. Got tired of answering these calls. My sister in law has the exact same name and she appearently owes every person under the sun! So they must just Google names and start dialing for dollars! So frustrating! In the beginning I thought I was being helpful by answering the phone--nahh they just want money and they don't care if they call me 1000's of times a year! So screw it. I hope every person blocks them or never answers their phone. That would put them out of business, right?!

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt.  It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of the date of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
