- ckI just got a call from this operation. Left no message, but they won't even have a chance for a message next time cause this number is being blocked. I don't owe anybody anything. What a laugh!
- Caller: portfolio recovery
- Call type: Debt collector
- SnerklesThese Rat-bast--ds have been calling, ever since my joining Verizon, and getting a new number. Don't bother to block the number which calls, as they have zillions of numbers. My land line ringer is permanently shut off, so I'm not bothered by salespeople . When I check the numbers, to see if I missed anything, fun, Portfolio is the only unknown caller. I really don't think there's a way to stop the calls. Incidentally, I owe not one cent, anywhere, so it's either a money-grubbing scam, or the numbers belonged to deadbeats.
- Caller: Portfolio Recovery
- Call type: Debt collector
- MaePortfolio Recovery. No message left. Been calling our number for years, all from different numbers. First call we've gotten from them in awhile.
Every day for the past 3-4 weeks, we've gotten calls from telemarketers for back braces, security systems, etc. All scams targeted toward anybody but especially seniors.- Caller: Portfolio Recovery
- Call type: Telemarketer
- farnk g| 8 repliesNever ever pay Portfolio a dime!. They farm old accounts to various locations across the country and therefore they can ignore any of your letters to cease and desist, as the debt was too old to collect (and not my debt anyway)
- Caller: PORTFOLIO RECOVERY CO PRC
- Call type: Debt collector
- WolfmanJack replies to farnk g| 7 repliesNo sorry, they cannot ignore any cease and desist letter or debt validation letter by law. Period.

One has to wonder why an allegedly “legitimate” business has to have so many different phone numbers to call from.

They were listed among the worst offenders on the late Bud Hibb's site!
Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of the date of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
Read up on your rights here, get template letters to send and also make a complaint at this government site: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/
Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.

I take it he passed away? He was one of the originals at showing how to handle these maggots, but he never went beyond it. - Sharpshooter replies to WolfmanJack| 4 repliesQuote:Mentioned here among other bottom feeding criminal DC's:

Mangled (?) link goes essentially no where. - WolfmanJack replies to SharpshooterYes, a while ago, there is even a forum thread here about, I believe it was started by Lone Stranger if my memory serves me correctly.
- WolfmanJack replies to Sharpshooter| 2 repliesYeah, looks like a couple of them didn't copy and paste right. https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/econo ... 2d06_story.html
- WolfmanJack replies to SharpshooterActually after I read it again, It looks like I put it in the wrong write up, should have gone into Midland, but then they are both criminal enterprises stealing money, birds of a feather as they say.
- FredGot a call from them today. Unusual because there was no caller ID information at all--just the phone number. I never pick up unless it's a call from a number I know.

Dismissals of this sort should be handled by Big Knuckles Louie. - WolfmanJack replies to SharpshooterPerhaps stringing them up at the nearest high tree would be in order? Invite the news to broadcast it, then maybe they would get the hint?

- ray replies to iPhoneall you need to do is write your bankruptcy judge a letter and i guarantee, if it is included in your bankruptcy, they will never call again. this happened to me. the bankruptcy judge will make them appear in court or write a desist letter. when i filed mine, i put the banks name on it as it hadn't been 'sold' as yet; but it is the banks responsibility to forward to any collection agencies. hope this helps a little.
- Tamianth replies to norThen its time to go after them for FDCPA violations. They are repeat offenders of FDCPA violations. Do read this article:

Some Tips:
*Keep all messages
*Take a picture of your Caller ID
*Keep any and all conversations recorded to your states recording laws, some require they be told, others do not. This can be transferred to a recording device.
*Keep a notebook handy for writing time, date, who you spoke with and what the conversation detailed.
*Check your SOL for your state as well.
*Attorneys need to be licensed as a DC to collect, all DC's must be licensed in their state as well as yours if different.
