One has to wonder why an allegedly “legitimate” business has to have so many different phone numbers to call from.

Make sure you read how they just lost an 83 million dollar lawsuit against them: http://www.kansascity.com/news/local/article21073359.html
Make sure you read how the NY AG spanked them bad on May 1, 2014 in the following BBB page.

They were listed among the worst offenders on the late Bud Hibb's site!
Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of the date of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
Read up on your rights here, get template letters to send and also make a complaint at this government site: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/
Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.

Thank you again for all the info, it will be put to good use!

Do make sure to report them and also make sure to sent them a certified, return receipt letter, whether it is a cease and desist, debt validation, or not me.

***A company must be licensed in their state as well as the one they are trying to collect in if two different states are involved.
Some Tips:
*Keep all messages
*Take a picture of your Caller ID
*Keep any and all conversations recorded to your states recording laws, some require they be told, others do not. This can be transferred to a recording device.
*Keep a notebook handy for writing time, date, who you spoke with and what the conversation detailed.
*Check your SOL for your state as well.
*Attorneys need to be licensed as a DC to collect, all DC's must be licensed in their state as well as yours if different.

- Call type: Debt collector
- Malissa| 1 replyThey keep calling and have even started calling my husband whom i wasnt married to at the time the bill occured which was 12 years ago. I recieved the bill in the mail recently and i am farely certain this was one that i paid over the phone years ago. It is no longer on my credit report and the statute of limitations has passed. I hadnt heard anything about this in years and all the sudden they are blowing my phone up. When the man leaves a voicemail he doesnt identify which company he is calling from but makes it a point to reference my old and new last names. I think this is a scam and was told that if i were to pay it it would then show up on my credit report and lower my score. Just block the number
- nettie replies to Rich T| 1 replyOMG I dont know why these people keep calling me, and yes all kinds of different numbers, which I always research and end up here. They never leave a message, I've never gotten any mail from them and there is nothing with this company on my credit reports. Wonder if my ex was giving out my phone number again?
- debt attorney replies to ymhActually, the statue of limitations varies by state. So it depends on your state. If you're really at 10 years, then you probably live in either Iowa, Rhode Island, or West Virginia, and in some cases, Illinois, or Kentucky. Other states are usually much less. In states where you have large credit and other debt that you cannot pay and the SOL is 10 years, you might as well file bankruptcy since the time frame that your credit is damaged and the potential of a law suit is the same length.

- BigA replies to MalissaAnother person that fails to use the law to their advantage. It is incumbent upon them to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it. Not the other way around.
