http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection - boogieman| 1 replyLook, since obviously we are not going to get these MFs to give up, then we might as well have some fun with them. I like to tell them I have Turrett's Syndrome and as a result I am prone to cuss and swear uncontrollably. I tell them it itsn't personal and that I would like to see if there is anything I can do to help them and I ask them to tell me what the issue is. As soon as they start to talk I go off on them about their lack of a father and that their mamma was a Ho-Bag. Then apologize all over myself and request that they continue. As soon as they start to talk again, I go off on them again. . . this time about what a dou che bag they are and that they should turn themselves inside out and take a shower to get rid of the schitty smell coming over the phone. . . . and again, apologize again. . . . and once again politely ask them to continue. As soon as they speak. . . . well. . . .you know the routine by now. . . sooner or later they will hang up on me and that is when the real fun starts. .. . . I CALL them up and go off on them about hanging up on a mentally disabled person and proceed to tell them what kind of useless lower than dirt type of person they must be. . . . of course, they hang up on me again and of course I will call them back again and go off on them again. I keep this up for several cycles. . . . usually they end up selling the account to some other poor SOB to which whom I will continue to have as much fun as possible in the same manner. . . . over and over and over and over again.

There hasn't been a telephone company operating under that name since approx. 2002! Also, I haven't had a phone under my name since the 80's. These guys are buying decades old debt, or scammers, or both! Scum bags all the way.

- William replies to GELSouthwestern Bell still exists, it changed its name to AT&T after taking over what was left of AT&T several years after the breakup. What is now AT&T has never abandoned that name.
As for the caller, I don't know. But scammers often make up phony claims hoping to trick people who have had debts in the past. - miki JThey are calling my distinctive ring fax...I don't owe anyone any money ...don't know who they are and don't care...why they would call a fax is crazy...of course I can't answer.

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of the date of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
Read up on your rights here, get template letters to send and also make a complaint at this government site: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/

- PhilipGot a call today on Sunday from a Portfolio Recovery. Left no message on the answering machine, and we have caller ID so if we are not familiar with who is calling we leave the machine to pick up!! Annoying and very frustrating being we are on the Do Not Call List! I would love to call these morons at their home on a weekend, and all hours of the day and night like they continue to call people. Our phone company will start to block these calls.

- SammySue82Reading these stories is so interesting to me. I have only had a land line for about 2 months after about 10 years without one and they got it. The bill isn't even in my name either. It's like psychotic. I have never answered juat cause I didn't know who they were, now that I do I might answer. I havent had a credit card or anything on any kinda credit in over a decade. I know exactly what they are calling for tho now that I have read others stories. Try to follow me.. Basically I need a lawyer. Like 3 years ago at my last job a garnishment magically appeared on my paycheck. I called the owners of my job asking for all the info about the garnishment. GET THIS! It's for a $3000 debt for a Verizon PREPAID phone card. What!?!? How do you get any debt on something that is prepaid? I have documentation from Verizon stating I have never been a client of theirs ever. I have never had or used a prepaid phone card. The whole thing is nuts and makes zero sense. So I kinda wanna answer and see if they can tell me how this debt makes any kinda sense. It's ridiculous.

When you've been informed that you have the wrong number eight times, you need to stop calling. I'll keep blocking you. Idiots!!!
