This is a scam - i googled the # and it's some place trying to sell you something; total scam!

Portfolio Recovery LLC.
They are in several major class actions lawsuits for fraudulent practices of collecting non-existing or paid off debts. Report them!!!! Then look to apply for the class action suits going on. They are getting sued millions and having to pay out millions for illegal collecting practices.

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt.  It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of the date of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.

Only answered because in Georgia, you have got to tell a bill collector to stop calling in order to collect $1500 fines.  I not only told them they have the wrong number, but told them they need to stop calling us.  I am ready to start collecting my $1500 fine per phone call through Morgan and Morgan.

They have called me already 3 times this morning from Portfolio Recovery Services. They must be getting desperate! Starting at 7:29A.M. THAT IS NOT LEGAL!!! Of course they use different numbers...they even left a message & said they were some loan service. Beware! This "devil" comes in disquises!!!

You go Pixie! If everyone knows the law as you do, Portfolio Recovery will have to pay out millions more than they have already! Ha ha to them! They can kiss my backside!

They call from different numbers trying to collect on a Best Buy card which is not mine. I was deployed overseas when they say the account was opened!! Criminal scam...

They have been calling for over a year they change the number every few weeks I have never been able to get a word in they do all the talking bottom line is I don't owe them but cant tell them.

They call me threatening to take legal action with the county I live in how can I get them to STOP

They keep calling me with different phone numbers. I even got a letter saying they bought my debt with Best Buy. I contacted Best Buy, and it turns out I have no debt with Best Buy. This is a scam company.

call looking for a name that is NOT mine.  supposedly calling on behalf of Conn's store - a place i have never set foot in in my life let alone purchased anything from them.  probably have 40-50 blocked numbers on my cell - how they came up with it who knows.

They are even calling on Sunday! I thought bill collectors couldn't call on Sunday.

Can you people read?  Even if they are legit, they don't give a flaming you know what!  Your reporting is appreciated, but don't expect them to stop!  Just report and refuse to answer phone.  If number is unknown, let them leave a message and don't return calls to anyone you don't recognize.

There is nothing in the law that says they can't call you 7 days a week or on holidays.  They are required to only call you between 8 am and 9 pm your time.  Everything you need to know is in my post that I made on Dec. 16th.  Read it and use the information to your advantage.  Knowledge is power and in this case will keep you from being a victim of a crime perpetrated by Portfolio.

They call and have been for over 5 years I answered one time and they were trying to collect a debt that I do not or never owed. I told them and they said it was in my name so I owed it whether I did or not . They still call but I do not answer. They will not send proof of anything I just wish they would stop I have told them to but that does not work.

Verbal requests mean nothing to them because the law states you must put it in writing and mail it to them.  We recommend that you send it certified, return receipt mail so they cannot say they never got it.  Also file complaints at the proper agencies, and then sue them.  All that information is detailed above, so do yourself a favor and read it, learn, and then you can stop the harassment.
