- xyz| 11 repliesBogus BS phone call threatening to come out and arrest me with a BS warrant unless I call this number. If you call this 855 area code number, it will cost you money simply to make the phone call. Think of it as calling an 800 number, only in reverse. It's toll free to the one receiving the call. The person making the call pays the fees! Sounds like a new scam to me.
- Caller: never said
- Sbn replies to xyz| 2 repliesDid they ever come? I just got a similar call saying to call the number of a lady I spoke with Friday who said she would put my account on hold. I told her I did not recognize the company she claimed I owed money to. Said I recieved the money in the form of a check I cash(nope,never!) please let me know if this is legit.. Thank you!
- Alfalfa replies to SbnThe Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:
•is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
•refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
•asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
•exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.
If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
•Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.
•Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
•Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft – charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
•Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
•Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

- ShillKill| 2 repliesFor at least the last year, an illegal group of debt collectors have been terrorizing consumers, their family, friends, and employees threatening to arrest the individual of an unpaid loan or other debt (their generally don't even owe). Be aware debt is a civil matter, not a criminal matter, and you can't be arrested. They threaten a warrant if the victim does not pay a sum of money by the credit card over the phone.
Some of the people they are calling do not owe a debt. Others they are calling have already settled their debt with the organization who owns the accounts. Even if you do owe a debt, do not be deceived by the actions of this group. Many of the accounts they are attempting to collect they do not own. In other words, if you pay these people, that is not going to clear your debt with its rightful owner.
Although when pressed the callers give the victim an address in Columbia South Carolina (usually a vacant lot), Atlanta GA (often a parking lot near the bus station or a Peachtree Road Address) or Phoenix AZ. They are actually out of the Charlotte North Carolina area. The scammers are using the following business names (and there are many others, and they seem to create new ones daily). They will normally answer the call back number as “Investigations”. They often call people with a recording claiming they are looking for a "defendant"

Here is a set of links to a variety of threads on this forum that document this group and its behavior. When I called back, they had my first and last name correct, went through how much "I " owed, yada, yada, yada. It turns out that it was the wrong person with my first and last name.
I've been calling them back DAILY to ask where my court papers are just to bust their ...s. They never answer, and the one time they did, the beast that answered was extremely rude! I'm talking street walker rude! I tried to call today and they have apparently changed their name from KS Associates to Capital Province (?) .
So, so bogus and dodgy. I hope they one day soon do answer. I'll continue to haunt them in the same way they haunted me. - jumpnjackflash replies to xyz| 2 repliesRe: 8553368448. - jacky replies to The WatcherSite has now been shut down. Providence Capital has yet to create a fake site. Glad they wasted their money.
- Jachy replies to jumpnjackflashThe correct name they are using this week is Capital Providence using this same number that was answered by Caplan Stein and Associates' number. These are criminals engaged in wire fraud, which carries a penalty of 20 years. The Feds just shut down and arrested one group today out of Geogia running the same con. Someday maybe we will see the criminals who are running this scam arrested as well. They have been reported to the FBI and other agencies.
So beware the are not legitimate and are are just scum criminals trying to steal your money. And not very good at it either. - angrybeargettingpoked replies to ReveremikeYou have the right idea,
I kept their phone lines tide up for seven hours on Friday. My goal is to keep them from doing this to some poor senior citizen. The names although false are Melissa Alex, Melisa Ashley, Allen Green (Who by the way told he hates America and everything we stand for). He told me that this country has never done anything for him so why should he care about it. I told him that I served over seas and he mocked the military. I didn't really understand everything about why we were there but I did believe that what I was doing was right. I made friends over seas that were in the FBI and they have moved this case to a priority status. The thing that bothers me while they build their case is that they continue to gain peoples assets for which they have worked their entire lives to attain. Last contact from them I have on voice mail that stated I would be arrested and my friends, family and associates would be contacted to keep them from aiding and abeding me. My family who has mostly passed would not be amused. Anyone who would like to help other people in this matter please call these bozos and tie up thier phone lines if only for 10 minutes. I myself will do it every day because these [***] don't even have call blocker tech. thanks and please respond to this message. I will give you my phone number so we can talk. - jumpnjackflash replies to ShillKillAdd "Coastal" at 866-675-1698 to the list.
