- Patrick| 6 repliesAnother number for Portfolio Recovery Services. Called the number back and they ask for a language choice and then goes to Voicemail for Portfolio. Portfolio recovery was just fined millions of $ for their deceptive and illegal practices. I guess they are working overtime trying to make up their losses. Added to the block call list and my word this company uses a lot of different phone numbers.

- BigA replies to PatrickWhich is why you first need to send them a certified debt validation, cease and desist, or "not me" letter and then sue them.

I have to wonder why an allegedly “legitimate “business would need so many phone numbers to call out on?
Web page with contact information: http://www.portfoliorecovery.com/contact_us.html
Make sure you read how they just lost an 83 million dollar lawsuit against them: http://www.kansascity.com/news/local/article21073359.html
Make sure you read how the NY AG spanked them bad on May 1, 2014 in the following BBB page.
BBB page with 1,322 complaints, 3 negative reviews a government action from the State of New York, an alert, and yet they get an accredited B+ rating (down from an A at least but they must still be paying big bucks for that rating)? http://www.bbb.org/norfolk/business-reviews/d ... olk-va-51000164
Bizapedia has them as a Delaware Corporation started in 2007 as opposed to the information on the BBBB page that says 1996:

They were listed among the worst offenders on the late Bud Hibb's site!
Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of the date of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
Read up on your rights here, get template letters to send and also make a complaint at this government site: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/
Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.
List of State AG’s offices: http://consumerfraudreporting.org/stateattorneygenerallist.php - the company is on known they did not leaI have received numerous calls from this company with no message left just annoying phone calls.
- Silver| 1 replyI guess I'll prepare a log of calls in order to lodge valid complaints at these people. They've called me all hours, on Sundays, late at night and early in the mornings. I have No outstanding debts owed, never failed to pay any debts, never defaulted on a loan or debt of any kind, nor declared bankruptcy for any reason; and can prove this in court. I have nothing to fear and have a simple advantage: I owe no outstanding debts past or present.

***A company must be licensed in their state as well as the one they are trying to collect in if two different states are involved.
Some Tips:
*Keep all messages
*Take a picture of your Caller ID
*Keep any and all conversations recorded to your states recording laws, some require they be told, others do not. This can be transferred to a recording device.
*Keep a notebook handy for writing time, date, who you spoke with and what the conversation detailed.
*Check your SOL for your state as well.
*Attorneys need to be licensed as a DC to collect, all DC's must be licensed in their state as well as yours if different.

- MooeyG| 1 replyI have been receiving these calls, and from other bottom feeder debt collectors for almost eight years now. I finally got a Call Blocker and it works great. All of them use multiple numbers to call you. I would have to say, knock on wood, that they call me only after 8:00 AM and not after 9:00 PM - but they do call Sun - Sat. I too have NO outstanding debt that is in default. I have never defaulted on any loan of any kind - car, mortgage, personal - whatever. I have never had outstanding medical bills that I could not pay. I have never taken out a student loan. Ditto my husband. Neither of our ex-es are people who would do this either. Just don't talk to them. Ever. You do NOT have to. I have never received - again, knock on wood - anything in the mail. As I understand it, they are working on debt that has supposedly been written off years ago, and is probably out of the statute of limitations for collections. Who knows what debt it is? I only know that I do not keep records back as far as the statute of limitations, and I am damned if I am going to go through trying to prove that I don't owe anything. My credit report and score are in the top 20%. There is nothing on my credit report that would remotely trigger any collection activity, and there are no scores to that effect. That is with all three prime credit reporting agencies. So if they can come after ME and my husband, you KNOW they are not legit.

- mousey replies to DoNotCallYou obviously haven't bothered to read the previous reports or forum. Definitely file a report and thanks for reporting here, but there have also been an incredible number complaints about this "company" in the last several months.
- m replies to Virginia dTry call blocking. "They" won't remove your number.
- Charles'D| 1 replyWhat posters don't realize is that if they are receiving calls from a debt collector for an unknown debt of theirs. It's about deceptive, unfair, and exploitative debt collection tactics and their predatory habits of calling all relatives, friends, neighbors, and others. PRA also uses disguises under undisclosed calls / skip tracing / verification / surveys / whatever. You may receive calls if you are listed as: associated / alternate contact number / wrong number or name to some alleged debtors account. You want calls stopped from this corrupt debt collection agency and their personnel? Send a cease and desist through their BBB exposing their corrupt business practices under state and federal FDCPA, FCRA, TCPA, Dodd Frank Act. Followed with complaints to state Attorney General's, CFPB,and all listed under this thread. See http://www.bbb.org/norfolk/business-reviews/d ... olk-va-51000164# with an alert.
