- Teresa| 1 replyScum of the earth debt collector have called me numerous times from a zillion phone numbers. I keep telling them that I have been divorced and remarried to my current husband for 25 years. The person they are trying to contact is my ex who is also remarried and living in another state. They keep calling. They have to many numbers to block so I finally called and reported them to the Better Business Bureau and the FTC. They keep calling. I solved the problem. I no longer answer any calls from unknown numbers, 800, etc. If it is important they will leave a message. End of story.

- BigA replies to TeresaNo you didn't solve the problem you are avoiding it and being harassed. It is good you made complaints. that is a start. You didn't mention making one to your State Attorney General's Office so you should do that. Then you need to send them a cease and desist letter by certified, return receipt mail. You should also go out and get a consumer lawyer and file suit against them. What they are doing is violating the law in an attempt to locate your ex. You have a rock solid FDCPA case.

I have to wonder why an allegedly “legitimate “business would need so many phone numbers to call out on?
Web page with contact information: http://www.portfoliorecovery.com/contact_us.html
Make sure you read how they just lost an 83 million dollar lawsuit against them: http://www.kansascity.com/news/local/article21073359.html
Make sure you read how the NY AG spanked them bad on May 1, 2014 in the following BBB page.
BBB page with 1,322 complaints, 3 negative reviews a government action from the State of New York, an alert, and yet they get an accredited B+ rating (down from an A at least but they must still be paying big bucks for that rating)? http://www.bbb.org/norfolk/business-reviews/d ... olk-va-51000164
Bizapedia has them as a Delaware Corporation started in 2007 as opposed to the information on the BBBB page that says 1996:

They were listed among the worst offenders on the late Bud Hibb's site!
Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of the date of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
Read up on your rights here, get template letters to send and also make a complaint at this government site: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/
Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.

- annoyed on FlPortfolio Recovery Associates...They need to stop chasing after people that do not owe any money! They will keep calling even if you are the wrong person. They use lots of numbers to trick you into answering the phone. If you answer, they will not tell you who they are until they know your name first! Do not tell strangers who you are ever! Hang up on them & never never answer numbers you do not recognize! They are very annoying!
