I have to wonder why an allegedly “legitimate “business would need so many phone numbers to call out on?
Web page with contact information: http://www.portfoliorecovery.com/contact_us.html
Make sure you read how they just lost an 83 million dollar lawsuit against them: http://www.kansascity.com/news/local/article21073359.html
Make sure you read how the NY AG spanked them bad on May 1, 2014 in the following BBB page.
BBB page with 1,322 complaints, 3 negative reviews a government action from the State of New York, an alert, and yet they get an accredited B+ rating (down from an A at least but they must still be paying big bucks for that rating)? http://www.bbb.org/norfolk/business-reviews/d ... olk-va-51000164
Bizapedia has them as a Delaware Corporation started in 2007 as opposed to the information on the BBBB page that says 1996:

They were listed among the worst offenders on the late Bud Hibb's site!
Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of the date of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
Read up on your rights here, get template letters to send and also make a complaint at this government site: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/
Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.

***A company must be licensed in their state as well as the one they are trying to collect in if two different states are involved.
Some Tips:
*Keep all messages
*Take a picture of your Caller ID
*Keep any and all conversations recorded to your states recording laws, some require they be told, others do not. This can be transferred to a recording device.
*Keep a notebook handy for writing time, date, who you spoke with and what the conversation detailed.
*Check your SOL for your state as well.
*Attorneys need to be licensed as a DC to collect, all DC's must be licensed in their state as well as yours if different.

http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection - Tamianth replies to on DNCThe DNC does not apply to debt collectors, they fall under the FDCPA laws. See Big A's and my posts above and go for their throats. They just lost a mega law suit for calling the wrong people.
- BigA replies to on DNC""debt collector" all that means is that they are spoofing the system to get around the DNC laws " The DNC laws were set up to provide relief from telemarketers, defined as people selling something. Debt collectors were never intended to be included. Which is why they have a law specifically for them called the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) and numerous state laws as well. So it would behoove you read the above posts and learn something, make reports, and find a lawyer to sue them,. If everyone did what they should do, then these cretins would be bankrupt and out of business.
- Sue| 1 replyThey called us on Sunday (again). Told us we could be sued for a debt to a Power Company we never heard of, last call was for an AT&T debt. Never had AT&T or the power company they spoke of. Told them several times wrong person and phone to not call here again. They wanted me to give them my husbands ss number so he could remove this. Yeah right! They repeated the last 4 of a ss number to me which was way off. I will be reporting this scam artist and love the fact I work for a law firm. Number they called from in KY, heck never even been in that state. How is it ok for these scum buckets to call our home and harasse us for someone we don't know? I pay 300 a month for our phone service to be harassed and not be able to do anything other then file suit....grrrrrr! Go away, just go away.....got my records and 1 more time it's on! Can they call on a Sunday and threaten you??
