- Kar| 9 repliesI got a voice mail from this number. "Hi this message is in regards to your Home mortgage. We've tried to reach you by mail and certified mail multiple times and have been unsuccessful. It is quite urgent that you get a hold of us as soon as possible at 888-998-8499. Once again 888-998-8499. Thank you so much." I called the number and an auto voice came on saying thank you for calling the Intake Department and then a bunch of music played. No live body ever picked up.
- Mar replies to KarI just got the exact same voicemail. Have not called back.
- SueI also just got the same message. Seems strange that they did not leave a company name. Coincidentally, (or not!), I received an email from a company called Hope for Homes claiming that an "Application for Sale of Home has been filed on my home.". No mortgage company name, no mortgage number, no nothing. Trust me. My mortgage company knows how to reach me.
- Caller: No idea.
- SueA little hint for those of you being hounded by these (and other) animals. I discovered recently on my Motorola phone that if I add the caller to my address, I can then set the contact to "All calls go to voicemail.". Then my phone never rings for those numbers but, on the off chance it is actually someone with whom I need to speak, they can leave a message. Hope this helps someone!! Good luck All!
- Ss replies to KarI got same message. Called back, same. My mortgage company has my number and address. Haven't received any certified mail.
- TracyDitto here too! Came home to the same message!
- Caller: Toll Free Number
- Call type: Debt collector
- EmeraldGood to hear my heart raced but I don't have a morage .....this makes me feel better .
- Caller: Nothing
- RobinI received a call from 888 998 8499 earlier this afternoon. I called back and got the same message and music.
- Caller: Unknown - Intake Department
- D.C.| 1 replyI got a voice mail from this number. "Hi this message is in regards to your Home mortgage. - Caller: portfoliorecovery
- BigA replies to D.C.This is a scare tactic by Portfolio which is illegal, just like everything else they do. If they had tried to reach you by certified mail, you would have know it. The US post office is very diligent in trying to deliver those and three attempts are made.
You need to send them a certified, return receipt debt validation, cease and desist calling, or "not me" letter. You also need to report them to the proper agencies to which I have provided links to. Then you need to go out and get a consumer lawyer to sue them on a contingency basis (no money out of your pocket) and let them pay you for the harassment. If everyone did these three things, these crooks would be bankrupt and we would all be the richer for it.

I have to wonder why an allegedly “legitimate “business would need so many phone numbers to call out on?
Web page with contact information: http://www.portfoliorecovery.com/contact_us.html
Make sure you read how they just lost an 83 million dollar lawsuit against them: http://www.kansascity.com/news/local/article21073359.html
Make sure you read how the NY AG spanked them bad on May 1, 2014 in the following BBB page.
BBB page with 1,342 complaints, 3 negative reviews a government action from the State of New York, an alert, and yet they get an accredited A- rating (back up from a B+, they removed 25 complaints to get them that rating, but they must still must be paying big bucks for that rating boost): http://www.bbb.org/norfolk/business-reviews/d ... olk-va-51000164
Bizapedia has them as a Delaware Corporation started in 2007 as opposed to the information on the BBBB page that says 1996:

They were listed among the worst offenders on the late Bud Hibb's site!
Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
Read up on your rights here, get template letters to send and also make a complaint at this government site: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/
Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.
List of State AG’s offices: http://consumerfraudreporting.org/stateattorneygenerallist.php - Chris replies to Kar| 1 replyI too have received a call from this number. I evidently was busy so hadn't answered ,so it went to voicemail, stating the same as to what others have mentioned. Our mortgage is not in my name, husband's only and by a local lender that does not have my cell phone number. They would of called our home number. No certified mail has been attempted. So I thought I would look it up and got here. I figured it was a scam. I only wish these people would get a real job.
- CKHome Shield Advantage, mortgage assistance. Told them the # they were calling was a business and they promised to remove. Then had the audacity to ask if one of my employees had filed for mortgage assistance and had called from the #. I told them I had no knowledge of my employees' personal matters and she quickly shut up.
- Caller: Home Shield Advantage
- Call type: Telemarketer
- KtGot the EXACT same message. B of A never has a problem reaching me by any means, so this is total BS.
- Caller: no name left
- Sandy JohnsonI just received a closet from this number same message about Home Mortgage called it back nothing but music
- Caller: They say it were cant' understand it
- Call type: Debt collector
- Jo replies to KarI have learned never to answer unknown phone numbers and let them go to voicemail. I too got this message from Intake and was placed directly on hold. I hung up at this point because I need you to identify your business name before I continue on. Too many scams out there unfortunately
- steph replies to ChrisI am current on my mortgage as well. I have had 2 scam calls this week...one about the IRS going to arrest me and the other because my computer had malware and infected junk files. OMG...can you smell the SCAM.........
- JanelleCalled the number back was on hold and then they hung up on me.
- Grim ReaperI Also received this message, "Hi this message is in regards to your home mortgage. We've tried to reach you by mail and certified mail multiple times and have been unsuccessful. It is quite urgent that you get a hold of us as soon as possible at 888-998-8499 once again 888-998-8499. Thank you so much."
First of all my mortgage broker knows my personal and direct Cell number. I have a total of 4 numbers, 2 are throw offs that I use for reasons of this nature, They are my Google numbers that i can make and receive calls from my my laptop, or my iPhone through the Google Voice app, the Number they are calling is NOT associated with my Mortgage Account, My home number is through my cable company where again it is attached to my iPhone through an App, All my Bills are up to date and are Paid early, with my google numbers i can either block each number or set my number on DO NOT DISTURB where all calls are sent to voice mail, and i will receive a text message that they called, I just checked with my Mortgage Broker no correspondence has been issued from them so, all I can say is this must be a company desperately looking for business. My suggestion is to have a google number, use the google number for everything and only give out your direct cell to a select few. I have had both my google number now for 10 yrs they were free when i first got them.... - RoseThis company keeps calling even though I have the number on auto reject. They keep leaving messages on my voice mail saying it's in regards to my mortgage and they have tried to reach me etc this is not my mortgage holder how do I stop these calls.
- Caller: They don't leave a name
- Bc replies to KarJust set got the same call.
